4/12/2022 8:54:00 AM | Men's Volleyball
MALIBU, California — The #8 Pepperdine men's volleyball team wraps up the regular season with two home matches against #12 Stanford. UCLA has won the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation regular-season title, but there's a wide range of possibilities for the remainder of the tournament's seeding to be determined with this week's results. The Waves could end up third, fourth or fifth. Seven players — JT Ardell, Alex Gettinger, JT Martin, Mason Tyler, Ben Weinberg, Spencer Wickens and Austin Wilmot — will be honored on Saturday for Senior Night.
MATCH #24 — Thursday (April 14) at Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu, California: #8 Pepperdine (14-9, 5-5) vs. #12 Stanford (12-11, 4-6) at 6 p.m.

OPPONENT — Pepperdine is 62-27 all-time against Stanford and has won 10 in a row. The Cardinal's last victory in the series was in 2017 in Firestone Fieldhouse. Pepperdine beat Stanford four times last season, including in the first round of the MPSF Tournament, when it appeared that would be the Cardinal's final match ever. The school's plans to discontinue the program were reversed during the offseason, however. Jaylen Jasper takes on his former team for the first time.
LAST WEEK — The Waves started the season with a 12-0 record in three-set matches but were swept twice by #1 UCLA, both home and away. Jaylen Jasper averaged 5.17 kills per set and Alex Gettinger had 2.20 digs per set. But the Waves hit .174 as a team to the Bruins' .417 over the six sets.
NATIONAL STATS — The Waves are in the top 10 in the nation in kills (13.10, fourth), hitting (.333, seventh) and blocks (2.31, ninth) ... Bryce Dvorak is fourth in assists (10.77) and ninth in aces (0.51).
ABOUT PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY — Pepperdine boasts a one-of-a-kind athletic department with unprecedented success for a school of its size. The Waves have won NCAA Division I championships in five different men's sports — one of just 18 schools to have accomplished this feat — and 10 overall. Of this elite group, Pepperdine has the smallest undergraduate enrollment, is the only school without football and is the only university that has not been affiliated with a "major" conference. The Waves have won a total of 26 team or individual national championships in their history. Pepperdine has also earned the Division I-AAA All-Sports Trophy, an award based on postseason success that's given to the top non-football school, three times (most recently in 2011-12). Located in scenic Malibu, California, the university overlooks the Pacific Ocean and its campus and athletic facilities are regularly voted among the nation's most beautiful. Pepperdine, which is affiliated with the Church of Christ, ranks #49 overall on U.S. News and World Report's list of America's best colleges.
