Three Earn AVCA Pacific South All-Region Accolades

MALIBU, Calif. — Shannon Scully, Rachel Ahrens and Isabel Zelaya of the Pepperdine women's volleyball team, garnered Pacific South All-Region first team accolades, as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Tuesday morning.
 
In addition to the regional honors, these three also earned All-West Coast Conference first team nods this season.  Six other players from the WCC also earned regional acclaim with four from BYU and two from San Diego.
 
The Waves will open postseason on Wednesday, April 14 at 9 a.m. PT in the NCAA Tournament against UMBC.  The match will be played at CHI Health Center in Omaha, Neb. and streamed live on ESPN3 with links available on www.PepperdineWaves.com.
 
Shannon Scully
Along with her All-Pacific South Region and All-WCC first team nods this season, Scully (Huntington Beach, Calif.) previously earned AVCA All-Pacific South Region honorable mention and All-WCC first team honors in 2019, while tabbing All-WCC honorable mention acclaim in 2018.  She has tabbed three WCC Offensive Player of the Week honors all-time (3/1/21, 10/7/19, 11/21/18).  Scully has also marked WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll 'Bronze' Honors and Pepperdine Scholar-Athlete status twice since joining the Waves.
 
Previously, Scully marked 3.25 kills, 3.19 digs, 0.32 aces and 0.38 blocks per set for her team.  She had put up 237 total kills on a .243 clip, with 23 aces, 233 digs and 28 total blocks with five solo rejections.  Scully had posted 11 double-doubles this season in kills-digs, and tabbed 15 double-figure kill matches with one of those with over 20 kills.  She also marked 14 matches with double-figure digs this season and led the Waves in kills in three matches, aces in eight, digs in four and blocks in four.  She ranked in the top-seven in the conference in kills, digs, attacks, aces and points.
 
Rachel Ahrens
Ahrens (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) earned her first-career WCC Offensive Player of the Week honor this season, and continued to finish with five total honors of the kind throughout the season (2/1, 2/8, 3/8, 3/15, 4/5). She also garnered All-WCC first team acclaim, along with her regional honor.  In previous years, she had been named to the All-WCC second team in 2019 and WCC All-Freshman Team in 2018. 
 
Ahrens tabbed a career-high 324 kills and 4.44 kills/set this season, along with a career-high 0.44 aces/set after marking 32 aces in 73 sets thus far.  Her 0.38 career aces/set currently leads the Pepperdine women's volleyball record books and her 0.44 seasonal aces/set ranks 2nd in the all-time record books, while her 4.44 kills/set ranks 4th in the all-time record books – both in the rally scoring era.  Ahrens marked one double-double this season and hit for double-figure kills in every single match of the season's 19 matches.  She marked over 20 kills in four matches and double figure digs once.  She led the Waves in kills in 15 matches and aces in nine.
 
Ahrens finished ranked 1st in the conference in points/set, total points, kills/set, total kills, total aces, total attacks and aces/set and ranks 12th, 16th, 17th, 19th, 22nd, 44th and 56th nationally in those respective categories as well. 
 
Isabel Zelaya
With the regional nod, Zelaya (Tomball, Texas) also garnered All-WCC first team honors and last season, had earned WCC All-Freshman Team honors in 2019, while also marking WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll 'Gold' Honors and Pepperdine Scholar-Athlete nod in that same year. 
 
She had a standout year serving as the primary playmaker for the Waves, having led the conference and ranking 15th and 18th nationally with 11.00 assists/set and 803 total assists.  She also marked 167 total digs to average 2.29 digs/set for the squad and has led the Waves to 13.68 kills/set and a .254 clip as a team this season with 999 total kills on 2559 swings.  She put up seven double-doubles in assists-digs this season, tabbed double figure kills in seven total matches and led Pepperdine in assists in all 19 matches.
