Waves Play #12 Texas A&M to Scoreless Draw

MALIBU, California – The Pepperdine women's soccer team played 110 impressive minutes against 12th-ranked Texas A&M on Sunday afternoon and came away with a 0-0 home draw.

Both the Waves (1-0-1) and Aggies (1-0-1) had their moments offensively. Texas A&M had perhaps the two best chances, hitting the right post once in each half. Pepperdine sophomore goalkeeper Zoe Clevely (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison HS) made several big saves among her career-high-tying seven, including a game-saving effort on a close-range shot in the 102nd minute.

The Waves were by no means stuck playing defensive soccer the entire time. Although the Aggies enjoyed a 14-9 advantage in shots, senior forward Hailey Stenberg (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei HS), junior forward Joelle Anderson (San Jose, Calif./Harker School) and sophomore midfielder Madi Cook (Trabuco Canyon, Calif./Tesoro HS) each had good scoring opportunities thwarted. And, Pepperdine put together an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.

QUOTABLE

Pepperdine Coach Tim Ward said: "Texas A&M, their program, their staff, is first class. It was a good game. There weren't a lot of chances. They hit the post a couple of times. We had a couple of moments where we were in and with the right final pass, maybe we could have got a goal. A tie is a fair result. I thought we did really, really well."

NOTABLE
  • Pepperdine and Texas A&M are now tied 1-1-1 after three all-time meetings.
  • The Waves haven't allowed a goal after 200 minutes of play this season.
  • Sophomore midfielder Madi Cook (Trabuco Canyon, Calif./Tesoro HS) made her first career start.
