Women’s Soccer Shut Out at No. 18 UCLA

WESTWOOD, Calif . – Pepperdine women's soccer (2-2-2) was shutout for the first time this season at No. 18 UCLA (3-2-1) Friday night 0-3 in Westwood.
"I am really proud of a majority of our performance tonight. We had some really brilliant chances to put the ball in the back of the net, it just wasn't our night," Head coach Tim Ward said. "We can take lessons we learned tonight and carry them with us into the final three nonconference games as we prepare for West Coast Conference play."
In a wild 90 minutes, five yellow cards were given between the two squads, three of those falling to the Waves. The sole VAR of the night was to review a no-call foul on Julia Quinonez, resulting in the first yellow given to coach Ward in the 28th minute.
Stealing the ball in their defensive third, the Bruins first got on the board on a counterattack in the 16th minute. The remainder of the half was even between the two squads with the Bruins holding the slight edge in shots 5-3. At the half, Pepperdine was looking for the equalizer, down 0-1.
Despite the scoresheet with two Bruin goals in the latter half, the Waves were aggressive on the attack and threatened to score nearly the entire 45 minutes. Quinonez, Chloe Brown, Kate Ryan, and Sam Hosford all logged shots for Pepperdine.
Pepperdine was outshot 4-10, including 3-6 on goal. Possession was near even with the Waves holding the ball 46 percent of the time, earning a pair of corners.
The Waves travel north after the weekend off, facing off against Fresno State Thursday night at 7 p.m. The match will be streamed on ESPN+ (subscription required) and live stats can be found at www.pepperdinewaves.com.
