Women's Soccer Draws with Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas - RV Pepperdine soccer (2-0-2) battled to a 1-1 draw at RV Texas Tech (2-0-2) Thursday night from John Walker Soccer Complex.
Kate Ryan broke the deadlock with a goal in the 78th minute for the Waves, with the Red Raiders equalizing soon after in the 81st minute.
"So proud of the Waves tonight!" said Head Coach Tim Ward. "In all my years I don't know if we've played in front of many crowds like that, it truly was a special soccer experience for our ladies!!! And in terms of our performance, our staff was so proud of our ladies!!! Both the quality and grit our ladies displayed tonight was incredible!!! It was an absolute war and a tie was probably a fair result. Every one of our women represented Pepperdine in the best possible way tonight!!!"
On a muggy night, it was the Raiders that seemed to own time of possession in the first half, yet each squad recorded three shots en route to a 0-0 halftime score. The Waves delivered the first shot on goal of the night in the opening minute from Peyton Leonard, which forced an Addie Todd save in goal for Texas Tech. The Raiders had its first real chance in the 8th minute with a corner kick but couldn't convert. Both teams played physical all night and it showed early, with Pepperdine's Ariana Salvador earning a yellow card in the 16th minute, with several fouls by each team ensuing. The Raiders booted another corner kick opportunity in the 24th minute, and Salvador made Todd record another save on a shot sent to the bottom left corner of the net. A few more corners for Texas Tech was all in a scoreless first period.
It was a much different story in the second half as the Raiders racked up 13 shots to Pepperdine's two. Despite the lopsided stat sheet, it was Kate Ryan that came through in the 78th minute, burying a left-footed shot into the left corner of the goal, giving Pepperdine a 1-0 advantage. However, it didn't take long for Texas Tech to respond, answering the bell with a goal in the 81st minute on a Taylor Zdrojewski score with an assist from Emma Torres. The Raiders peppered the Waves with two more corner kicks and a few shots before the final whistle, but Pepperdine escaped Lubbock with a tie and another point tallied.
