#22 Women's Soccer Hosts Illinois, #9 Vanderbilt

MALIBU, California — The #22 Pepperdine women's soccer team continues its season-opening four-match homestand this weekend with contests against Illinois and #9 Vanderbilt.
After a strong opening weekend, the Waves went from unranked to a spot in the United Soccer Coaches top 25.
MATCH #3 — Friday (August 30) at Tari Frahm Rokus Field in Malibu, California: #22 Pepperdine (1-0-1) vs. Illinois (2-0) at 3 p.m.
MATCH #4 — Sunday (September 1) at Tari Frahm Rokus Field in Malibu, California: #22 Pepperdine vs. #9 Vanderbilt (2-0, plays at UC Irvine on Friday) at 1 p.m.
WATCH/ONLINE — Both games can be seen online on the WCC Network. Pepperdine Hall of Famer Al Epstein will call both matches. Links to broadcasts and live stats can be found at PepperdineWaves.com.
OPPONENTS — Pepperdine is 1-0 all-time against Illinois, winning a neutral-site match 4-2 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 2011. Illinois went 11-8-1 last season. The Illini opened the season with a pair of home wins, 3-1 vs. Loyola-Chicago and 3-2 vs. Dayton ... This will be the first ever meeting with Vanderbilt. The Commodores went 16-4-1 last year and made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Vanderbilt began 2019 with two home victories, beating Georgia State 7-0 and Evansville 4-0.
LAST WEEK — The Waves beat UC Riverside 3-0 in the season opener behind a UCR own goal and tallies by Brie Welch and Shelby Little (a freshman making her Pepperdine debut). Pepperdine then held #12 Texas A&M to a scoreless draw. The Waves were outshot 14-9 but had an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.
NOTABLE — Pepperdine scored three goals in the opener vs. UC Riverside after never scoring more than two in any game in 2018 ... Pepperdine hasn't allowed a goal in the first 200 minutes of the 2019 season ... The Waves improved to 17-6-4 all-time in season openers last weekend, and 14-3-1 in matches that doubled as the home and season opener ... The Waves are now 10-0-1 in their last 11 home openers ... This is the fourth time in program history that the Waves have begun a season with at least four consecutive home matches (the last was 2014) ... Pepperdine has one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the country. The combined win-loss record of their non-conference opponents in 2018 was 120-62-20 (.643), and five of them won matches in the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
TICKETS — Single-game tickets at Tari Frahm Rokus Field cost $10 each for adults and $8 each for children under 12, seniors 65+ and alumni/Crest members. Students, faculty and staff are free with an ID. Groups of 10 or more can purchase tickets for $5 each.
