MALIBU, Calif. — After a thrilling but tough battle against Gonzaga at the Martin Centre, the Pepperdine women's volleyball team fell with 22-25, 28-26, 19-25, 25-22 and 15-10 final set scores to the Zags.
Heidi Dyer and Hannah Frohling posted double-doubles, while Jasmine Gross extended her career-high kill presence by one. Dyer marked a career-best 63 assists and added 11 digs, three blocks and an ace in the all-around effort. Frohling posted 19 kills and 10 digs and Gross tabbed a career-best 19-kills and added nine blocks, five digs and a .417 hitting percentage.

The Waves led the court with 71 kills on a .254 hitting percentage, while the opposition was good for 63 kills on a .233 output. Each side marked 10.0 team blocks apiece, while the Zags led with 68 digs and eight aces and the Waves put up four aces and 62 digs.

It came down to the fifth set. The Waves went ahead early and amassed an 8-5 lead with kills from Frohling and blocks from Dyer and Gross. Gonzaga evened the match at the 10-10 mark and the Waves were unable to close the gap. The Bulldogs ended the match with a 15-10 fifth set victory.
Despite falling behind 1-5 in the first set, the Waves rallied to tie the score at 6's with the help of smashes from the attack efforts of Frohling and Lyons and a solo rejection from Gross. After 9-9, 16-16 and 20-20 tied scores, the Waves buckled down and kills from Gross and Frohling ended with a Waves 25-22 win to pull ahead 1-0 early.
The second set was as close as the first throughout, with 5-5, 14-14 and 22-22 set scores. A Gross kill late put the Waves in set-point opportunity, but the opposition rallied to tie things up 26-26. The opposition won the set 28-26 to tie the match 1-1.
Pepperdine started even with the Bulldogs in the third set, but extended a gap with a 7-3 run late in the set for a 19-15 lead. Back-to-back blocks from Frohling, Gross and Dyer, Gross put the Waves up 22-15. Late in the set, a pair of kills from Gross and a set-winning ace from Dyer put the Waves up 2-1 with a 25-19 set victory.
The home team broke ahead early in the fourth and continued towards a 25-22 set win to send the match to the fifth.
