In the first set, the Waves gathered a small 8-5 lead early on with blocks from O'Harra and Dyer and a smash from Lyons, but the opposition stayed close behind. After a 16-16 tied score, Pepperdine buckled down and a kill from Lyons and solo rejection from Gross helped the effort. With the momentum in the home court, another block from Gross, Dyer and a final smash from Frohling earned the Waves a 1-0 match lead on a 25-19 set win.
Pepperdine came out strong in the second set, pulling ahead 6-3 with more kills from Lyons and a Gross, Lyons block collaboration. Late in the set, the opposition brought their deficit within one-point at the 23-22 mark, but the Waves once again closed the door and a final smash from Harris put the Waves at 25-23 for a 2-0 match advantage.
The third set was the Waves from start to finish. After a quick 4-4 tie, an ace from Lyons followed by a pair of Frohling kills put the Waves on a run towards a 14-6 lead in the middle of the set. Fueled by the gap and more kills from Gross and Harris, the Waves were looking at a 22-16 lead late. Dyer delivered the game-winning smash from the right side for a 25-16 win and 3-0 match victory.
