Pepperdine Unable to Comeback in Road Loss at LBSU

LONG BEACH, California – The Pepperdine baseball team dropped a road midweek contest to Long Beach State 2-1 at Bohl Diamond at Blair Field on Tuesday night.
 
The Waves (8-4) outhit the Dirtbags seven to four, but Pepperdine also left seven runners on base.
 
BIG WAVES
  • Sophomore infielder John Peck (Moorpark, Calif./Moorpark HS) went 2-for-4 including a solo blast to left field to get the Waves' only run.
  • Freshman infielder Cam Conley (Lincoln University, Pa./Malvern Prep) was also 2-for-4.
  • Graduate student outfielder Mike Malinchak (Delray Beach, Fla./American Heritage HS) had the only double of the game.
  • Redshirt junior LHP Tyler Murrah (Dallas, Texas/Jesuit College Prep) threw 2.0 innings and struck out two batters. 

GAME RECAP
 
Peck led off the top of the first inning with a single to center field to get Pepperdine's first hit of the game. In the bottom of the first, Long Beach State was able to reach base by two hit by pitches. The Dirtbags were able to advance a runner to third and on a first and third play, Long Beach was able to score the first run on a Waves overthrown ball to second and take a 1-0 lead.
 
After five scoreless innings, in the bottom of the seventh Long Beach State had two runners on and hit an RBI single to left field to collect an insurance run at 2-0. To lead off the top of the eighth inning, Peck hit a blast to left field to get the Waves within one at 2-1. Malinchak hit a single in the eighth, but was unable to round the bases.
 
UP NEXT
 
The Waves will be back home at Eddy D. Field Stadium to host UConn for a weekend series starting on Friday, March 11. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. and the game will be streamed on the WCC Network.
