Tommy Scavone Named West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week
5/4/2026 12:00:00 PM | Baseball
MALIBU, Calif. - For the second time this season, Tommy Scavone has earned West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week, as announced today by the WCC.
Scavone was also tabbed as the winner of the accolade on March 30. It is his second-ever conference award, pre/postseason or weekly, and the third time a Wave has won a weekly honor this season (James Dell'Amico, Freshman of the Week, March 16).
The right-hander, one of nine seniors honored prior to Sunday's game against San Francisco, couldn't have tossed a much better game versus the Dons on Saturday. Scavone went eight strong innings, walking none while striking out seven. He didn't give up a run on five hits and racked up his pitch count to a whopping 115, a career-high as a Wave. In his last two appearances, Scavone has lowered his season ERA from 4.82 to 4.06, having given up only two earned runs in his last 15 innings. He has also gone at least 5.1 in each of his last eight starts, dating back to March 13 against UMass Lowell.
"I was just trying to throw strikes and keep them off balance," Scavone commented postgame. "I've been trying to keep the walks down and trust my defense, and get some double plays to keep me going."
Scavone was part of a starting pitching staff (including Casey Euper and Collin Valentine) that combined to throw 20.2 innings against San Francisco, surrendering only three earned runs (equates to a 1.31 ERA).
