Pepperdine Drops Game One of Series Against UConn

MALIBU, California – The Pepperdine baseball team fell in game one of its final non-conference series of the season, 6-2, against UConn at Eddy D. Field Stadium on Friday afternoon.

The Waves (8-5) were connecting with the ball, but were unable to convert them to runs until late in the game, while a grand slam for the Huskies (10-1) propelled them to the win.

After a quick five scoreless innings, the Huskies hit a grand slam to get the scoring going and take a 4-0 lead in the top of the sixth inning. A scoreless seventh inning brought UConn back to the plate in the top of the eighth and the Huskies tacked on two more to lead 6-0.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Waves found holes in the field to collect four hits. Cam Conley (Lincoln University, Pa./Malvern Prep) led off the inning with a single to the shortstop. Lingley hit one deep into the right-center gap for a triple to score Pepperdine's first run of the game and make it 6-1. Quintt Landis (Westlake Village, Calif./Oaks Christian HS) stepped into the box as a pinch-hitter and knocked an RBI single to left field to make it 6-2. Pepperdine was unable to continue the hot bats in the bottom of the ninth as UConn collected the win.

Pepperdine and UConn will face off for game two of the series on Saturday, March 12. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on the WCC Network.

- Sophomore infielder John Peck (Moorpark, Calif./Moorpark HS) had two hits on the day.
- Sophomore designated hitter Nolan Lingley (Tracy, Calif./Ripon Christian School) had an RBI triple and crossed the plate once.
- Sophomore RHP Brandon Llewellyn (Colleyville, Texas/IMG Academy) threw 6.0 innings giving up six hits and struck out four hitters.Â
