Another southpaw will make a start for the Waves on Tuesday against the Gauchos in the form of freshman Jack Fowler. He has made two previous starts this season (17 appearances) and has done well. His first start was in Malibu against Michigan, where he tossed three innings of one-run ball. Fowler battled to strike out five Wolverines while walking three. His most recent start came on April 21, also at home, against Cal Poly, where he logged three innings. Fowler sat down three Mustangs, walked none, and gave up one run on a pair of hits. The Pleasanton, California native has been one of the steadier arms out of the bullpen, ranking fifth on the team in both innings pitched (28.2) and ERA (5.34).
Â
The Waves hold a slight edge in the all-time series over the Gauchos at 77-74-3. Pepperdine has dropped the last three meetings and is looking for its first victory in Santa Barbara since 2018.
Â
EXTRA BASES
Pepperdine baseball has one of the richest traditions and success stories among mid-major baseball programs in the country. The Waves won the NCAA National Championship in 1992 and have made 28 NCAA Tournament appearances in total. Located in scenic Malibu, California, Eddy D. Field Stadium boasts one of the most remarkable views in college baseball and has seen 35 former Waves reach the MLB while seeing 41 All-American selections.

Fowler will face off against UCSB's Josh Jannicelli, a right-handed freshman counterpart from Santa Rosa, California. Jannicelli has been consistent in his first collegiate season, averaging nearly three innings per outing (10 appearances) while not being prone to walking batters. It's been a while since Jannicelli pitched, last taking the hill on April 24 against Cal State Fullerton, giving up one unearned run.🧵 THREAD! We were so excited to celebrate our nine seniors yesterday.
