Women's Soccer Hosts #2 Stanford, SDSU

MALIBU, California — The Pepperdine women's soccer team returns home for a couple of key non-conference matchups this weekend, as the Waves will host #2 Stanford and San Diego State.
This concludes a stretch that will see the Waves play six of their first seven games at home.
MATCH #6 — Friday (September 13) at Tari Frahm Rokus Field in Malibu, California: Pepperdine (1-3-1) vs. #2 Stanford (5-0-0) at 3 p.m.
MATCH #7 — Sunday (September 15) at Tari Frahm Rokus Field in Malibu, California: Pepperdine vs. San Diego State (1-3-1, hosts San Diego on Friday) at 1 p.m.
WATCH/ONLINE — Both matches will be shown online via the WCC Network. Pepperdine Hall of Famer Al Epstein has the call against Stanford, while Darren Preston is behind the microphone for the San Diego State contest. Links to broadcasts and live stats can be found at PepperdineWaves.com.
OPPONENTS — Pepperdine is 1-0-0 all-time against Stanford, winning 1-0 in Palo Alto in 2003. The Cardinal, which went 21-1-2 last season and played in the semifinals of the NCAA Championships, has begun 2019 by outscoring opponents 26-3 (including a 9-0 victory at San Francisco in their last game) ... Pepperdine is 5-3-0 all-time against San Diego State. The Waves won at SDSU 1-0 last season on an 81st-minute goal by Joelle Anderson. Pepperdine is 3-1 in home matches and has won the last three such meetings.
LAST WEEK — The Waves more than doubled Cal Poly in shot attempts (20-9) but the Mustangs scored the game's first two goals and held on for a 2-1 victory last Friday in Pepperdine's first road match of the season. Leyla McFarland scored in the 57th minute but despite numerous quality chances, the Waves couldn't equalize.
NOTABLE — Brie Welch and Leyla McFarland each have a team-high two goals out of the six that the Waves have scored this season ... Pepperdine has one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the country. The combined win-loss record of their non-conference opponents in 2018 was 120-62-20 (.643), and five of them won matches in the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
TICKETS — Single-game tickets at Tari Frahm Rokus Field cost $10 each for adults and $8 each for children under 12, seniors 65+ and alumni/Crest members. Students, faculty and staff are free with an ID. Groups of 10 or more can purchase tickets for $5 each.
NEXT — More tough opponents await next week, as the Waves will travel to Hawai'i for a pair of neutral-site games against #5 UCLA (Thursday, Sept. 19) and #13 Washington State (Sunday, Sept. 22).
