WAVEPOINTS
• After capping off a perfect four-game homestand before a short Christmas break, the Pepperdine men's basketball team heads to San Jose State for the Waves' non-conference finale on Saturday evening.Â
• Pepperdine has won four straight games for the first time since January 2016 and is looking for a five-game winning streak for the first time since December 2015.
• The Waves are trying for their third road win after only accumulating two last season. The last time they had more was six in 2015-16.
• Colbey Ross was named WCC Player of the Week on Monday for the second time in his career. He averaged 29.0 points and hit multiple late clutch shots in a pair of comeback victories.
• Against Portland State, the Waves trailed by seven with six minutes left and ended the game on an 18-4 run. Against Northern Arizona, the Waves trailed by seven with 3 1/2 minutes left and ended the game on an 11-2 run.
• Ross, who set Pepperdine's career record for assists on December 14, is now taking aim at the career scoring record. He's up to 19th place, 415 points shy of the record.Â
• Ross is averaging a WCC-best 7.2 assists per game. Nationally, he's fifth in total assists (93) and seventh in assists per game. Ross has more career assists than any junior in the country with 511 (second place is 61 assists behind).
• The Waves boast three of the top seven scorers in the WCC: Ross (second at 20.3), Kameron Edwards (fourth at 16.8) and Kessler Edwards (seventh at 16.1).Â
• Kessler Edwards leads the WCC in rebounding (8.5), blocked shots (1.5) and double-doubles (five).
• The Waves have hit 80% or better of their free throws in 11 of their 13 games and they rank first nationally at 85.0%.The Waves also have three of the top four free throw shooters in the WCC (Ross first at 91.8%, Kameron third at 81.5% and Kessler fourth at 81.1%).
• The Waves begin WCC play to start the new year. They get Pacific at home next Thursday (Jan. 2), then travel to #1 Gonzaga on Saturday (Jan. 4).
WAVECASTS — Saturday's game can be heard online via WaveCasts at PepperdineWaves.com. Veteran play-by-play man Al Epstein, a 2015 Pepperdine Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, will be behind the microphone (now in his 35th season, this will be his 1,051st consecutive broadcast for the Waves).
WATCH — The game will be streamed by San Jose State through the Mountain West Digital Network.
PEPPERDINE — Pepperdine boasts a one-of-a-kind athletic department with unprecedented success for a school of its size. The Waves have won NCAA Division I championships in five different men's sports — one of just 18 schools to have accomplished this feat — and nine overall. Of this elite group, Pepperdine has the smallest undergraduate enrollment, is the only school without football and is the only university that has not been affiliated with a "major" conference. The Waves have won a total of 25 team or individual national championships in their history. Pepperdine has also earned the Division I-AAA All-Sports Trophy, an award based on postseason success that's given to the top non-football school, three times (most recently in 2011-12). The Waves have produced 205 conference championships, 318 All-Americans and 53 Olympians. Located in scenic Malibu, California, the university overlooks the Pacific Ocean and its campus and athletic facilities are regularly voted among the nation's most beautiful. Pepperdine, which is affiliated with the Church of Christ, ranks #50 overall on U.S. News and World Report's list of America's best colleges.
