Men's Basketball Drops Non-Conference Finale at SJSU

SAN JOSE, California – The Pepperdine men's basketball team closed out non-conference play with an 83-68 loss at San Jose State on Saturday night.
The Spartans (4-10) made a season-high 13 three-pointers and held the Waves (7-7) to 36.9% shooting overall.
BIG WAVES
The Waves jumped out to leads of 2-0 and 5-2 but those would be their only two of the night. The Spartans then hit three three-pointers to go ahead 11-5. They hit two more threes in an 8-0 run that extended the lead to 21-12 with 9 1/2 minutes left. SJSU's advantage hit double-digits for the first time at 34-24 and the Spartans would go up by as many as 14 at 38-24 before going into the half with a 42-32 lead.
Pepperdine made a run early in the second half. Baskets by Edwards and Chavez cut the deficit to three at 47-44 with 15 1/2 minutes to go. The Spartans, however, responded with an 11-2 run to push the lead back up to 12 at 58-46. Pepperdine would get no closer than nine on three different occasions the rest of the way.

- Senior forward Kameron Edwards (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Etiwanda HS) scored a team-high 19 points and had six rebounds.
- Junior guard Colbey Ross (Aurora, Colo./Eaglecrest HS) collected 14 points and 11 assists. It was his second point-assist double-double of the season and the 10th of his career.
- Junior guard Skylar Chavez (Woodacre, Calif./Drake HS/Santa Rosa JC) scored 13 points and made three three-pointers.
- Pepperdine shot 31.3% in the first half and 42.4% in the second half for 36.9% overall.
- San Jose State shot 43.2% in the first half and 41.9% in the second half for 42.6% overall.
- SJSU came into the game averaging 6.7 three-pointers and shooting 28.3% from distance but made eight in the first half and finished with double-figure three-pointers for the first time this season. The Spartans went 13-for-34 (38.2%). Pepperdine was 8-for-25 (32.0%).
- The Waves just about doubled up the Spartans on turnovers, committing 13 to SJSU's seven.
- SJSU was led by Brae Ivey's 23 points.
