WAVEPOINTS
• The Pepperdine men's basketball team heads to CSUN on Tuesday following a remarkable comeback victory over UC Irvine in Saturday's home opener.
• The Waves trailed by nine with a little more than two minutes to play but scored the game's final 13 points to beat the Anteaters (a 2019 NCAA Tournament team).
• Colbey Ross continues his march toward the program's all-time assist record. He just passed Amadi Udenyi for #4 on the all-time list. Ross has 433, Jon Korfas is #3 at 438 and Jeremy Major's record is 494.
• Ross, who is averaging 16.0 points and 7.5 assists, was named to the Lou Henson Award preseason watch list (for the nation's top mid-major player) last week.
• Kessler Edwards, who took part in a USA Basketball U19 national team camp this summer and joined Ross on the preseason All-WCC team, has scored 18 and 16 points in the two games this season.
• Kameron Edwards was the catalyst in the comeback win vs. UCI, getting team highs of 21 points and 10 rebounds and hitting the go-ahead three-pointer with 44 seconds left.
• Newcomer Skylar Chavez earned a starting spot in the first two games of the season and scored 13 points in each contest.
• The Waves return 10 letterwinners and four of their top five scorers from last season.
• Last year's Waves won 10 more games than the year before — one of just four times in school history Pepperdine has improved by double-digits in the win column. Lorenzo Romar has been the head coach for two of them.
• The Waves were picked to finish fourth in the WCC in the preseason coaches poll after placing eighth last season.
• The Waves are currently in a stretch of three consecutive road games (and six of seven away from home). They visit Abilene Christian this Saturday (Nov. 16).
WAVECASTS — Tuesday's game can be heard online via WaveCasts at PepperdineWaves.com. Veteran play-by-play man Al Epstein, a 2015 Pepperdine Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, will be behind the microphone (now in his 35th season, this will be his 1,040th consecutive broadcast for the Waves).
WATCH — CSUN will live stream the game via BigWest.TV.
PEPPERDINE — Pepperdine boasts a one-of-a-kind athletic department with unprecedented success for a school of its size. The Waves have won NCAA Division I championships in five different men's sports — one of just 18 schools to have accomplished this feat — and nine overall. Of this elite group, Pepperdine has the smallest undergraduate enrollment, is the only school without football and is the only university that has not been affiliated with a "major" conference. The Waves have won a total of 25 team or individual national championships in their history. Pepperdine has also earned the Division I-AAA All-Sports Trophy, an award based on postseason success that's given to the top non-football school, three times (most recently in 2011-12). The Waves have produced 205 conference championships, 318 All-Americans and 53 Olympians. Located in scenic Malibu, California, the university overlooks the Pacific Ocean and its campus and athletic facilities are regularly voted among the nation's most beautiful. Pepperdine, which is affiliated with the Church of Christ, ranks #50 overall on U.S. News and World Report's list of America's best colleges.
