Box Score SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The Pepperdine women's volleyball team was felled by San Diego in three sets at the Jenny Craig Pavilion on Thursday night. Coming into the match, the Waves were in 2
nd place in the WCC Standings, while the Toreros were in 3
rd place.
Despite comeback attempts in each set, USD (10-9, 7-2 WCC) took home 25-19, 25-21 and 25-15 set scores over Pepperdine (13-6, 7-2 WCC).

USD was able to lead Pepperdine throughout the match after amassing 44 kills on a .400 hitting percentage, compared to the Waves' 35 smashes on a .189 success rate. The Waves posted four aces, 33 digs and 4.0 blocks, while the Toreros marked five aces, 41 digs and 5.0 blocks in the match.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
Pepperdine came out strong in the first set, going point-for-point with San Diego throughout a majority of the action. After a 15-15 tie, however, the opposition pulled ahead with a pair of kills and used the advantage en route to a 25-19 first set win.
In the second set, the Waves and Toreros once again worked point-for-point en route to a 14-14 tied score. After a tied 17-17 score, USD once again gained an advantage and late kills from across the net resulted in a 25-21 second set Toreros' win.
Heading into the third set down 2-0, the Waves needed to jump out strong to stay in the match. Although, after a 10-10 tie, the Toreros went on an 8-2 run to gain a sizeable lead. Late in the set, some attack efforts from USD closed the match with a 25-15 final set win.
