
Waves Roll Through Long Beach State 3-1

MALIBU, Calif. — The Pepperdine women's volleyball team defeated Long Beach State in four sets on Tuesday night in Firestone Fieldhouse, downing the 49ers with 25-14, 21-25, 25-18 and 25-21 final set scores.
Jasmine Gross (Portland, Ore./Jesuit HS) led the squad with 13 kills on a .480 clip, while adding seven blocks including one solo rejection, one ace and four digs. Nikki Lyons (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas HS) and Hannah Frohling (Edmond, Okla./Edmond North HS) each posted double-doubles with 11 kills apiece. Lyons added 11 digs and two aces for her fourth seasonal and 11th career double-double, while Frohling was solid with 16 digs for her fourth seasonal and fifth career double-double.

The 49ers made the adjustments in the second set and despite an early 11-7 lead from the Waves, came back to tie things up 11-11. Each side went point-for-point en route to a 17-17 tie before the opposition grabbed another lead and took it to a 25-21 set win to tie the match heading into intermission.
Pepperdine once again broke out of the starting gate in the third set, amassing a 7-2 advantage early on with strong services from Farr and kills from O'Harra. The Waves went on another run with seven-straight services from Dyer, including back-to-back blocks from Gross and Harris. Another rejection from Dyer and O'Harra late in the set, followed by a Lishman ace, put the Waves up 2-1 with a 25-18 third set victory.
The fourth set went back-and-forth with both teams exchanging nine tied scores and three lead changes. The Waves pulled ahead first with a 12-10 lead, but the opposition took over at the 18-16 mark. Pepperdine tied things up 20-20 and an ace from Lyons and kills from Harris and Frohling finalized the Waves' 3-1 victory over Long Beach State on top of a 25-21 fourth set win.
