MALIBU, Calif. " A 17-point run early in the contest and big games from Lamond Murray Jr. and Stacy Davis kept the Pepperdine men's basketball team perfect at home with a 76-58 West Coast Conference victory over San Diego on Thursday night.

The Waves (12-7, 5-3 WCC) have now won five of their last six overall, and they're also now 8-0 at home, their best mark after eight games in Firestone Fieldhouse since the 1985-86 season. The Toreros fell to 6-12, 1-6.

Murray (Los Angeles, Calif./Bishop Montgomery HS) scored a game-high 21 points while adding eight rebounds. Davis (Laveen, Ariz./Fairfax HS) collected his career-best ninth double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Davis went 12-for-12 from the free throw line.

The Toreros scored the game's first two points, but the Waves countered with the next 17. They held USD scoreless for eight minutes and 20 seconds, which included 0-for-8 shooting and six turnovers. Murray had eight points and senior forward Jett Raines (Coppell, Texas/Coppell HS) had six during the run. San Diego's second basket of the game didn't come until 10:44 remained in the half.

San Diego got no closer than nine points the rest of the way (at 19-10 with 8:58 left in the first half). Pepperdine led 38-23 at halftime and by as many as 22 points late in the game.

Raines was the third Wave to finish in double-figures with 12 points. Pepperdine also helped its cause by making 25 of 29 free throws (86.2%).

"We played unselfish again," Pepperdine Coach Marty Wilson said. "Our guys were looking for each other and trying to find the mismatches. A number of guys had opportunities to score. Stacy was really aggressive. He got to the free throw line and rebounded well. I didn't like our turnovers, though."

The Waves forced 16 turnovers but committed 17 of them, which USD utilized for a 27-19 edge in points off turnovers. San Diego shot 37.9% for the game and didn't have a single player reach double-figures. The Waves hounded the Toreros' leading scorer, Duda Sanadze, into a 1-for-13 shooting, two-point night.

The Waves next host BYU on Saturday (Jan. 23) at 5 p.m. The game will be shown on BYUtv and TheW.tv, and fans can also listen to Pepperdine Hall of Famer Al Epstein via WaveCasts at PepperdineSports.com.
