The Waves will take on No. 1 Stanford at 7:40 a.m. tomorrow in the NCAA quarterfinals. The semifinals will follow in the afternoon, slated for 2:05 p.m. against the winner of Eastern Michigan versus Texas.
Pepperdine shot 3-over on Monday, finishing the 72 holes of stroke play at 11-over as a team. The Waves had the third-lowest round of the day among the 15 remaining teams, with only Eastern Michigan and Stanford shooting under par. Pepperdine finished one stroke ahead of Iowa State (+12) to avoid a playoff for the final match play berth.
Kylee Choi led the Waves with a 69 (-3) in the fourth round, matching the low round of the day individually as just four players posted 3-under.
"Our goal for the week was to play 72 holes, grind out our best score and we are excited to make the quarterfinals of match play against No. 1 Stanford," said head coach Laurie Gibbs. "After more than 1,150 shots, it is amazing that we finished 8th by one stroke. Tomorrow will be a great test for the players and they are excited to meet the challenge. Go Waves!"
The Waves finished day one of competition in 21st place, steadily moving up the leaderboard throughout the week before breaking into the top-eight for the first time on the back nine today.
It marks Pepperdine's second time advancing to match play at the NCAA Championship since implemented in 2015, previously reaching the quarterfinals in 2023. The Waves are the No. 8 seed and will take on top-seeded Stanford, who finished stroke play 22-under and 13 strokes ahead of second place USC. Pepperdine's 2023 match play contest was also against the Cardinal, as the Waves fell 3-1.
The Waves have secured a top-eight finish at the NCAA Championship for the eighth time in program history while the top-10 finish is the tenth for the program.
Kylee Choi got out to a blistering start for the Waves, setting the tone with four birdies on the first six holes. Choi totaled seven birdies on the day on her way to shooting 3-under. She finished 34th on the individual leaderboard at 4-over for the tournament.
Eunseo Choi finished in a tie for 20th at even par across 72 holes. Choi logged a 74 (+2) Monday, after being 4-over through 14 holes before making consecutive birdies on six and seven to bring her score back to 2-over.Â
Jeneath Wong also logged a 74 (+2) on the day, finishing in the top-40 individually at 5-over for the tournament. Wong traded three birdies and bogeys back and forth on the back nine, making the turn and shooting a 38 on the front nine.
Grace Anderson recorded her best round of the tournament with a 74 (+2) in Monday's final round. Anderson began the day with a birdie on the 10th, with consistent play leading to a 37 on both the front and back nine. She finished 78th individually (+15) across the week.
Yingzhi Zhu posted a 78 (+6) on the day, bringing her final score to 6-over for the tournament. Zhu finished in 42nd individually as she logged three rounds of 73 or lower on the week.
