MALIBU, Calif. — Pepperdine women's golf is set to compete at the NCAA Championship held from May 22-27 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
The Waves were one of 30 teams to qualify for the final site after securing a second place finish at the Stanford Regional this past week and enter as the No. 10 seed in the field from the NCAA. The appearance at the NCAA Championship marks the 15th in program history, including the third time in the past four seasons.
The championship format in Carlsbad will include 30 teams and six individuals completing 54 holes of stroke play (May 22-24), and then the top 15 teams along with the top nine individuals not on an advancing team competing for one additional day of stroke play (May 25) to determine the top eight teams for match play competition and the 72-hole stroke play individual champion.
The top eight teams then compete in two days of match play for the team national championship to be decided May 27.
Live results from the championship can be found online at NCAA.com and here. The final three days of competition (May 25-27) will be broadcast live on the Golf Channel.
"The team worked hard all season to be ranked 10th and now we'll compete at the NCAA Championship at La Costa,"Â said head coach Laurie Gibbs. "After four full days of great practice, everyone is ready for the short drive down the coast and a week of their best play in the biggest tournament."
Pepperdine's second place finish in the regional round was its third-ever top-2 finish at a regional. Jeneath Wong paced the Waves with a third place finish individually, as she matched a program record for low round with a 63 in the second round of the tournament.
The field for the tournament includes the top-five teams from each of the six NCAA regional sites. Pepperdine and Eastern Michigan enter as the lone programs from a non-power four conference to qualify.Â
The full field in order of seeding from the NCAA includes Stanford, USC, Florida, Texas A&M, Texas, Auburn, Arkansas, Wake Forest, Duke, Pepperdine, North Carolina, SMU, Iowa State, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, Florida State, Arizona State, Ohio State, Baylor, Eastern Michigan, Houston, Northwestern, Missouri, Kentucky, LSU, Virginia, Michigan State, Oregon State and Texas Tech.Â
