
Women's Golf Completes Opening Round at NCAA Championship

CARLSBAD, Calif. — Pepperdine women's golf wrapped up the opening round at the NCAA Championship with a +8 team score Friday from Omni La Costa Resort & Spa.
The Waves sit in a tie for 21st place on the team leaderboard among 30 teams, with two rounds left to play before the field is cut down to 15 teams following Sunday's third round.
The field was paced by USC at -7, with only seven teams shooting below par on the day. The low individual round of the day was a 68 (-4) with 40 players shooting under par. Full results for the opening round can be found here.
Yingzhi Zhu paced the Waves with an even par-72 on the day, while Jeneath Wong logged a 73 (+1) and Kylee Choi carded a 74 (+2).
The temperature remained in the 60s throughout the day with increased winds in the afternoon affecting the later wave of tee times.Â
Zhu (E) led the way for the Waves with a strong back nine to get in with a 72 on the day. After shooting a 38 on the front nine, she carded three birdies on the back, finishing with a four on the par-5 18th which put her back to even. Zhu sits in a tie for 41st individually.
Wong carded a 73 (+1) which puts her in 60th individually through 18 holes. Beginning with a bogey on one, she rebounded with consecutive birdies on five and six, eventually making the turn at two-over. Wong also then went in the red on the back nine, making birdies on holes 10 and 17 to get back to +1 for the day.
Kylee Choi posted a 74 (+2) in her opening round, putting her in a tie for 86th. Choi shot even par on the front nine, making bogey on three before sinking a 20-foot birdie putt on the par-3 eighth. Her lone birdie on the back came on the 15th, as finished up her round at two over par.
Grace Anderson posted a 77 (+5) in her opening round, making her lone birdie of the day on the 18th.
Eunseo Choi also carded a 77 (+5), making par on the opening 14 holes before finding trouble on the 15th, making eight, finishing her round with 16 total pars
The Waves will tee off of hole 10 tomorrow beginning at 7:47 a.m. alongside SMU and North Carolina.
