CARLSBAD, Calif. — Pepperdine women's golf was defeated 3-0 in match play to No. 1 Stanford in the NCAA Quarterfinals Tuesday morning from Omni La Costa Resort & Spa. The Waves' season comes to a close with a T-5th finish at the NCAA Championship, capping a strong run in Carlsbad after the team finished eighth among 30 teams across 72 holes of stroke play to advance to the match play portion of competition.
The fifth-place finish marked the sixth in program history at the NCAA Championship. Pepperdine and head coach Laurie Gibbs now boast a 218-138-2 (.612) winning percentage across 15 NCAA Championships, as the Waves have 10 top-10 finishes.
"Coach Kacey and I are incredibly proud of the way our players competed throughout the season," said head coach Laurie Gibbs. "Reaching match play at the NCAA Championship is a tremendous accomplishment and a reflection of this team's talent, resilience and determination. Our seniors, Jeneath and Jenny, close out outstanding collegiate careers with two appearances in match play at the NCAA Championship. We couldn't be happier for them and all they've contributed to our program."
Pepperdine and Stanford squared off beginning on hole 10 in the second wave of quarterfinal tee times.
In match one, Grace Anderson jumped out to an early lead, going three up through three holes after making consecutive birdies to begin. Stanford got two holes back with consecutive birdies on 14 and 15, as the match was eventually all square with four holes to play. The Cardinal made birdie on the 6th and then halved the remaining three holes, as Anderson fell one down, making it through all 18 holes.
In match two, Stanford's Andrea Revuelta secured a 5&4 victory over Kylee Choi, as Revuelta was flawless on the day with five birdies and zero bogeys through the 14 holes contested.
In match three, Stanford held on for a 3&2 victory over Yingzhi Zhu. Zhu went two up through two holes early, with the Cardinal making three straight birdies from 14-16 to take back the lead. Zhu was two down through 11 holes, as another Stanford birdie on hole three brought them three up, as the Cardinal held on at three up to secure the win.
In match four, Jeneath Wong was one down through 15 holes of play as the match went unfinished. Wong and Kelly Xu went back and forth between tied and Xu being one up, as there was no other scoreline at any point across the match. Wong bogeyed the opening hole and then made 14 straight pars.
In match five, Eunseo Choi was three down through 15 holes when the match was clinched by the Cardinal. Choi fell behind early, going three down through three holes before storming back. She sinked a lengthy birdie putt on 16 to bring the match all square, as Megha Ganne then rattled off four birdies across the next nine holes to rebuild the lead for Stanford.
Stanford went on to defeat Eastern Michigan in the semifinals and will take on USC in tomorrow's national championship match.
The Waves conclude the 2025-26Â season with eight top-5 finishes, three tournament victories, a conference championship, a runner-up regional finish, and a top-five finish at the NCAA Championship after being ranked outside the top-40 in the preseason rankings.Â
