SERIES-LY SPEAKING
Pepperdine has dominated the all-time series against San Fran, owning a 130-60 record against the Dons. It's been a see-saw battle between the two squads in the last three series, in which the Waves hold a 5-4 edge. Pepperdine took the series from San Francisco in 2024 when the Dons last visited Eddy D. Field Stadium.
TRACY TO THE BIG LEAGUES
Former Wave baseball player Chad Tracy was named the Interim Manager of the Boston Red Sox this past Saturday night following the dismissal of Alex Cora and several other coaching staff members. Tracy played three seasons at Pepperdine (2004-06) and earned WCC Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference honors in 2005. Boston beat the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday, April 26, marking Chad's first win as a MLB manager and 500th career win as a manager overall, including minor league. Tracy played his first-ever professional game on June 21, 2006 against current Waves head coach Tyler LaTorre. Tracy was a member of the Spokane Indians, while LaTorre was playing with the Salem Keizer Volcanoes. LaTorre collected his first professional hit, a double off the top of the wall, in that contest.
MAJOR LEAGUE UPDATE
After making the Pittsburgh Pirates Opening Day roster, former Wave Billy Cook has appeared in 19 games with the Pirates. The outfielder has 11 at-bats, hitting .273 with a trio of hits while scoring five runs. He has also stolen two bases and played all three outfield spots (5 in left, 3 in center, 8 in right) and hasn't committed an error in 41.1 innings in the field. On the other hand, pitcher A.J. Puckett, who was originally drafted in the 2nd round by Kansas City Royals in 2016 MLB Draft, signed a contract on April 17 with Charros de Jalisco of the Mexican League.

Right-hander Tommy Scavone is scheduled to make his next start on Saturday for Pepperdine. The Waves have done well behind Scavone for the entire season, having never lost two consecutive Scavone starts. In particular, Pepperdine has won five of the last six games that Tommy has started, including the last three in a row. Scavone has tossed at least 5.1 innings in his last seven starts, dating back to March 13 against UMass Lowell.
LUCIEN'S ON THE LOOSE
Graduate pitcher Lucien Wechsberg has been one of the most reliable Waves' arms this season. In 24.1 innings, Lucien has recorded a 1.85 ERA along with a 1.23 WHIP. He has given up 19 hits while striking out 26 and walking 11. Opponents are hitting .213 off of Wechsberg, who has been involved in 11 of the Waves' 17 wins (three wins, eight saves). His eight saves are a career-high (he had three just last week) and hasn't given up a run in his last seven innings pitched.
TIME TO TALK ABOUT TREY
Outfielder Trey Dunn has been sensational at the dish this season. In his last eight games, he is hitting .363 while blasting four home runs. He hit one home run in each game of the three-game series at Seattle last weekend. His nine home runs are tied for the most on the squad alongside Daniel Patterson, and it also ranks tied for the second-most in the WCC heading into Friday's matchup against San Francisco. His 14-game on-base streak is the second-longest on the team this season.
CORE FOUR
Daniel Patterson has been guiding the Waves' offense this season amongst a quad of solid offensive players. Patterson leads the squad with 16 multi-hit games, while Kai Laxa has 13, Julian Nunez has 12, and James Dell'Amico and Trey Dunn each have 10. Patterson had a team-best 11 game hitting streak snapped at LMU a couple of weekends ago, while 'Delly' and Laxa once carried an eight-game streak of such. Patterson currently carries a team-high 16-game on-base streak.
NO JOSHIN' AROUND HERE
Freshman Joshua Woodworth has been on an absolute tear at the plate in the last two weeks. In that time span (8 games) the Ventura, California native is hitting .400 (14-for-35), .368 with runners on base (7-for-19), .375 with RISP (runners in scoring position, 3-for-8), and .429 with two outs (6-for-14). He has 9 RBI with two out this season, the most on the team. He has also reached base safely in each of the last eight games.
