Baseball Breaks Out the Brooms, Sweeps Seattle
4/26/2026 7:01:00 PM | Baseball
Following the Waves' victory, San Diego's beatdown of Saint Mary's, and San Francisco's blowout loss at home to Pacific today, Pepperdine is tied for second place in the WCC heading into next weekend's series against San Fran. The Waves sit four games back of Gonzaga with nine conference games remaining, although the Bulldogs hold the head-to-head tiebreaker.
Pepperdine's victory also marked its first conference sweep since May 16-18, 2024, which was a sweep of Gonzaga.
"To beat a team three times and sweep a weekend series in college baseball is really hard, especially on the road," said Head Coach Tyler LaTorre after the contest. "Seattle is a good team and they compete like crazy, I am extremely proud of our level of compete and focus today. To take a gut punch like the two-run homerun we gave up and then to battle back was a testament to this team's resilience. Collin Valentine and Dylan Stewart pitched great today. They kept Seattle at bay and allowed our hitters to gain the lead and never relinquish it."
The aforementioned southpaw Valentine was given the ball for the Waves, and he went five innings. While walking four and not striking out a Redhawk, he forced Seattle to pound the ball into the turf, inducing 10 groundouts. His only mistake came in the fourth when he surrendered a two-run home run, making it 2-0 Redhawks.
Pepperdine responded right away in the top of the fifth on a Joe Cardinale RBI single that just got past the Superman-like dive of Seattle second baseman Brandon Stinnett, plating Aidan Camberg. That one is 'Trey' gone‼️

The Waves kept plugging away in the sixth, getting some traffic with a Joshua Woodworth single followed by a Trey Dunn single. James Dell'Amico punched a single to left a few batters later, scoring Woodworth to knot the game at two apiece. Camberg ensued with a RBI single to give the Waves a 3-2 advantage as Dunn touched home.
Dylan Stewart relieved Valentine in the sixth and held the Redhawks scoreless across a trio of innings, giving up just two hits while walking none and striking out a pair. Dunn added a solo shot in the eighth, his ninth of the year, and Lucien Wechsberg came in for the save as Pepperdine won 4-2. Dunn is tied with Daniel Patterson for the team lead in the home runs department, and it was his third homer in as many days.
"For Lucien to come in the ninth for the save after three innings Friday and slam the door was pure Waves Baseball," continued LaTorre. "It was a full team effort all weekend. As we go into finals week and graduation, our hope is to continue to play our brand of baseball next week against San Francisco."
GAME NOTES
- Wechsberg tossed five scoreless innings in three games this week, earning three saves along the way.
- Seattle drew five walks in the contest.
- The Redhawks left nine on base, while the Waves left eight.
