Baseball Wins Second Straight Behind Pair of Homers and Stellar Pitching

BELLEVUE, Wash. - The Pepperdine baseball team (15-26, 9-7 WCC) made it two wins in a row with a 3-1 victory over the Seattle Redhawks (14-22, 9-7 WCC) Friday evening.
As of publishing time, the Waves stand in a tie for third place with Seattle in the WCC standings. Pepperdine is just one game back of San Francisco, a team the Waves will welcome to Malibu next weekend.
"Great way to start off a conference road series," said Head Coach Tyler LaTorre following the win. "Casey Euper getting out of the first inning by inducing a huge double play turned by Nunez and Laxa was huge. It swung the momentum, and Josh Woodworth and Trey Dunn took advantage by going back-to-back with towering home runs that were the difference."
Pepperdine sent out southpaw Casey Euper to the bump and he was masterful, delivering a quality start consisting of six innings and an unearned run. His only blemishes were three walks and a hit by pitch that scored Seattle's lone run. Euper struck out five and has gone at least six innings in four consecutive starts, with the Waves winning three of those contests.
Pepperdine went down in order in the first inning but didn't wait much longer to get on the board, thanks to a towering drive from Joshua Woodworth that sailed over the '402' mark in right-center field - the deepest part of the ballpark - to give the Waves a 1-0 lead. Trey Dunn ensued three pitches later and cranked a 2-0 fastball over the left field wall, quickly extending the lead to 2-0.
"Casey settled in, gave us six great innings, and we were able to add an insurance run in the top of the 7th before handing the ball over to Lucien Wechsberg to close out the final three innings," added LaTorre.
That insurance run came with some help from Seattle catcher Josh Cunnigan, who botched a throw to first on a Joe Cardinale infield single, plating AJ Bianchina, who had come in to pinch-run for catcher Max Aude.
Wechsberg was sensational, tying for his longest career outing in the collegiate ranks (three innings), tallying a trio of scoreless innings for his seventh save of the campaign.
"For Lucien to come in and throw three hitless innings to get the save was incredible," continued the second-year head coach. "It really set the tone for the weekend. We also played great defense behind our pitchers today."

Euper had gotten out of a one-out, bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the first and cruised for the most part after that, striking out the side in the second before going one-two-three in the third frame. He worked around a two-out double in the fourth and following his hit-by-pitch hiccup in the fifth, he induced an inning-ending double play in the sixth, giving way to Lucien Wechsberg in relief.HOW FAR WILL THIS ONE FLY⁉️ A majestic drive from @15jwood to start the scoring!
