Euper Dominates, Unrelenting Offense Powers Baseball Past LMU

Casey Euper looked like an ace again, posting his third consecutive quality start (seven innings, three earned runs). Euper racked up 13 strikeouts, a new career-high that easily surpassed his previous high of six on April 10 against Pacific.
"Can't say enough about the performance by Casey Euper on the mound," said Head Coach Tyler LaTorre after the contest. "He was masterful. To battle through some of the weird hits that happened early and to allow our offense to break the game open in the middle innings was phenomenal. He established his fastball and mixed in his breaking ball when he needed to. Really proud of him."
Offensively, Danny Cook went 4-for-5, marking his fourth multi-hit game of the season and 15th of his career (first four-hit game of his career). Freshman Joshua Woodworth also went 4-for-5, tallying the first four-hit game and the sixth multi-hit game of his young career. The middle of LaTorre's lineup (three through six spots; James Dell'Amico, Woodworth, Trey Dunn, Kai Laxa) shredded the Lions' pitching staff, combining to go 11-for-19 with six RBI, while that group of four also scored 12 of the Waves' 14 runs.
Pepperdine's 18 hits are the most since April 5 of last year when the Waves put up that same number at home against Santa Clara. Pepperdine's 14 runs are also the most since May 16, 2024 at Gonzaga (15 runs).
"What a great job by our entire lineup working together tonight," added LaTorre. "Highlighted by two 4-hit nights by Josh Woodworth and Danny Cook. We scored first and kept the pressure on all night. Two-strike hitting, hitting with runners in scoring position, and extra basehits. It was a complete game tonight."
The Waves wasted zero time getting on the scoreboard as Woodworth ripped a RBI double down the left field line, plating Dell'Amico from first base. Zach Wadas answered for the Lions in the bottom of the first with a RBI single as LMU had some early traffic against Euper.🗒️From the desk of the 'Now You Know' department:@maxaude2 this season is now hitting .413 (12-for-29) with runners on base and .533 (8-for-15) with runners in scoring position.

The Lions took the lead in the third on a Jaxson Wall solo home run but it was Pepperdine with the response, as Max Aude chopped a ground ball to third. DJ Ghiorso couldn't make a good throw and his error scored Woodworth to make it 2-2 in the fourth. Cook ensued by scalding a RBI single the opposite way to give the Waves a 3-2 advantage.
LMU knotted the game again at 3-3 following Cooper Whitton's RBI groundout, but the Lions were tamed by Euper after that. He willed his way through the last three innings he pitched, slicing and dicing LMU for seven strikeouts in the fifth through seventh frames. With two outs in the seventh, LaTorre went out for a mound visit before Euper went good morning, good afternoon, and goodnight on a strikeout of Zach Williams to put Euper's outing to bed.
The Waves went ahead for good with a six-run fifth inning. Pepperdine had RBI singles from Dell'Amico, Dunn, Laxa, and Cook, while Julian Nunez sprayed a RBI double into the left field corner.
Aude unloaded the bases with a three-RBI double in the sixth, and Dunn sent a towering two-run homer to dead center for good measure as the Waves rolled to a 14-3 victory over LMU.
GAME NOTES
- Each team stranded seven baserunners.
- Euper's 13 strikeouts were one shy of tying the third-most in a single game in program history (Randy Wolf, 14 strikeouts vs. Portland on March 21, 1997).
- Pepperdine had a 3-2 edge in walks.
