The Pepperdine baseball team took the series over Tulane with a 2-1 win Saturday afternoon at Eddy D. Field Stadium.
The Waves (3-8) beat the Green Wave (7-3) in another pitcher's duel, ending in a duplicate score of 2-1.
BIG WAVES
Senior shortstop
Justin Rubin (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) scored both runs for the Waves, reaching base both times on pitching errors.
Graduate RHP
Matthew Boyer (Edwardsville, Ill.) pitched 7.0 innings, allowing just one run with five strikeouts.
Redshirt sophomore designated hitter
Max Bernal (Clovis, Calif.) hit .500 in the afternoon with an RBI.
RECAP
Continuing the pitching clinic from Friday, Pepperdine's bullpen put on another show. Boyer only allowed one run in seven innings, including putting up zeros for the Pepperdine defense in the opening three innings. Rubin got the Waves on the board first, scoring thanks to a single by Bernal into center field.
Again in the third inning, it would be Rubin to cross home plate after reaching on a walk, getting knocked in by senior
Julian Nunez (Encinitas, Calif.) with a single up the middle.
The Green Wave responded in the next half inning, breaking the drought with two singles that would result in one run scored.
The following four and a half innings would not see either team score, as redshirt sophomore RHP
Adam Troy (Houston, Texas) took over for Boyer in the eighth, pitching the final two innings to clinch the 2-1 win.
