Following the loss to the Mustangs on March 3, Pepperdine is 36-27 against Cal Poly all-time. The Mustangs have gotten the better of the Waves in recent matchups, winning five consecutive and seven of the last nine dating back to the 2022 campaign.
Pepperdine's offense will focus on one of Cal Poly's southpaws, Luke Kalfsbeek, who did not appear in the matchup on March 3. He'll be making just his second start (ninth overall appearance) of the season and will likely go a short stint, averaging just 1.38 innings per appearance (has gone only 2+ innings twice).
The Waves will have Austin Plisinski open the contest in a bullpen game for Pepperdine. Plisinski will make his 13th overall appearance of the season and his second career collegiate start. His first start was last season at Grand Canyon, where Plisinski tossed one scoreless frame.
The Waves will return to WCC play this weekend with a three-game series at LMU.
SHAWN'S GRAND SALAMI
Freshman catcher Shawn Romero made the memory of a lifetime on Saturday by hitting his first collegiate home run, which happened to be a grand slam. His long ball put the dagger in a 10-3 win for the Waves over Pacific. Romero has just 35 at-bats on the season but has tallied 5 RBI and 15 total bases, which ranks 11th on the team despite having the 13th-most at-bats on the squad.
WILL YOU BE MY VALENTINE?
Redshirt junior starting pitcher Collin Valentine has provided the Waves consistency on the hill this season. The southpaw ranks third on the team in ERA (4.29) while working 42.0 innings so far this season, second-most only behind Tommy Scavone's 50.1 following his start on Sunday. He has sat down lefties this season, allowing just a .135 average (5-for-37) against left-handed batters.
Nash Horton had made a great impact in the Waves' lineup this season, recording a .262 average through 65 at-bats. The freshman has driven in seven, scored seven runs, drawn eight walks, and been hit by a pitch once.
DAN IS THE MAN
Daniel Patterson has been putting up all-conference numbers this season, boasting a .309 average while rocking a .978 OPS. His nine home runs are part of a three-way tie for the most in the West Coast Conference. Of Patterson's 42 hits this season, 21 have gone for extra bases (11 doubles, one triple, nine homers), which also ties for the most in the conference. He has racked up 81 total bases so far in 2026, which slots in at third-most in the WCC.
WELL DUNN
Outfielder Trey Dunn has stepped up in a big way at the dish this season. He is tied with Daniel Patterson for a team-leading five multi-RBI games and paced the squad with a 12-game on-base streak that came to an end on March 31, although he has a new six-game streak of such.
MAD MAX
Catcher Max Aude has been consistent behind the plate and in the batter's box this season. Number nine is hitting .276 entering Tuesday's clash with Pacific and has been one of Pepperdine's best hitters with runners on base, recording a .407 average (11-for-27). He has been just as good with runners in scoring position, boasting a .538 average (7-for-13).
CORE FOUR
Daniel Patterson and James Dell'Amico have been guiding the Waves' offense this season. Patterson leads the squad with 14 multi-hit games, while Julian Nunez has nine. Dell'Amico and Kai Laxa have racked up eight, tying for the third-most on the team. Patterson extended his hitting streak to a team-best nine games on Sunday, while 'Delly' and Laxa once carried an eight-game streak of such.
SCAVONE SATURDAYS
Right-hander Tommy Scavone returned to the hill on Saturday for Pepperdine. The Waves have done well behind Scavone in his last several starts, winning three of his last four outings (the only loss was by one run). Scavone has gone at least 5.1 innings in his last five starts, including at least 6.0 innings in three straight starts from March 13-March 28. He improved his record to an even 3-3 after Saturday's victory.
