MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine beach volleyball team will host the Asics Classic in Malibu, Calif. this weekend.Â

WEEKEND FESTIVITIES: On Friday, Pepperdine's 2014 AVCA national championship-winning team will be honored prior to the Waves match against Utah at 2 p.m. Continuing with the fun on Saturday, five Waves' seniors - Kristine Briede, Chase Curry, Gracie Pedersen, Aubrey Roberts, and Sarlota Svobodova - will be honored for their contributions to the Pepperdine program after all duals are complete. Â

LOOKING AHEAD: Next weekend, the Waves will stay close to home by competing in Santa Monica, Calif. in the West Coast Conference Championships. The first matches are set to begin on Thursday, with the championship slated for Friday afternoon.Â

WAVES WEATHER: Friday is forecasted to have a high of 72º degrees and wind speeds of 10 to 15 miles per hour. Saturday shows a high of 69º degrees and wind speeds of five to 10 miles per hour. There is no rain expected for Friday or Saturday.Â

LAST WEEK: Pepperdine went 0-4 at the Center of Effort Challenge on Friday, April 12, and Saturday, April 13 in San Luis Obispo, Calif..Â
On Friday, the Waves first challenged #2 USC, falling 4-1, though Kate Clermont (Burlington, Ontario, Canada) and McKenna Thomas (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) highlighted the match by taking down the Trojans in the No. 1 position after a three-set bout. The pair posted 22-20, 11-21, and 15-10 set scores to secure a point for Pepperdine.Â
In the second dual, Pepperdine took on #5 TCU, who swept, 5-0. In the No. 3 position, Gabriella Perez (Loomis, Calif.) and Sarlota Svobodova (Brno, Czech Republic) would compete in a tight first-set match but were unable to secure the win with an 18-21 set score. The Horned Frogs were able to win all of their courts in two sets to take the match.Â
On Saturday the Waves began the day with a match against #7 Long Beach State. Beach took all the matches in two sets, completing a 5-0 sweep.Â
In slot No.1, Clermont and Thomas had a close match, ending set one with a 22-20 loss. The pair was unable to come back in set two, falling 21-18 in the second set.Â
In the No.5 position, Emma Bubelis (Northbrook, Ill.) and Maya McNabney (Ancaster, Ontario, Canada) competed in a close first set but were not able to complete the win, posting 21-19z and 21-16 set scores.Â
In their last dual of the tournament, Pepperdine competed against #4 Florida State and was able to secure a point in the No. 2 slot. The squad ultimately fell in two-set matches on the other courts, with a final score of 4-1.Â
In the No. 2 position, Madison Oriskovich (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Kristine Briede (Balozi, Latvia) took a two-set victory, posting 21-19 and 21-16 sets.Â
Perez and Svobodova would battle in a three-set match in the No.3 position. After winning the first set 21-18, the pair would be unable to secure a win in the next two sets, falling 21-18 and 16-14.Â

OPPONENT NOTES: The Waves are set to face off against Hope International and Utah for the first time in program history.Â
