SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Pepperdine beach volleyball (24-14) enters tomorrow's West Coast Conference (WCC) Tournament as the No. 2 seed. They will face No. 7 Portland (4-21) at 11:30 a.m. Each day of competition will be hosted at nearby Ocean Park Beach. Their second opponent will be determined via the outcome of their duel against the Pilots.
"We are really confident," head coach Marcio Sicoli said. "We are confident coming into the conference tournament pressure-free. We know that we are underdogs, but we love to play that role. The pressure is on for LMU and everyone else to beat the Waves. We can't wait to go after it!"
A victory would propel the Waves against the winner of No. 3 Saint Mary's (25-10) and No. 6 Pacific (3-25). This would set up Pepperdine's second-round match-up for 3:15 p.m. Thursday.
A loss would have the Waves square-off with the loser of the Gaels-Tigers game at 2:00 p.m.
The orange and blue would begin Friday at 9:45 a.m. with two wins or at 8:30 a.m. with one loss or more. The championship is set for later that day at 1:30 p.m.

Pepperdine has met Portland once this season, sweeping them while in Santa Cruz. A win would put them in familiar territory against Saint Mary's, who they defeated twice this season, 4-1. Team 15 and Pacific have not yet met, but previous Waves teams have defeated the Tigers in all eight match-ups.
Coach Sicoli referenced Loyola Marymount, who sport the top seed and a first-round bye in the tournament. They are currently ranked No. 8 in the AVCA National Poll. The Waves met the Lions in the semifinals last season, falling to the team that would eventually be runner-ups in the national championship versus TCU.Â
