Hemphill Breaks 800M School Record for Fourth Time This Season at Oxy

LOS ANGELES, California – Ryan Hemphill broke the 800-meter school record for the fourth time this season as the Pepperdine men's and women's track teams finished the regular season strong at the Oxy Invitational on Saturday.

Hemphill (Visalia, Calif./Redwood HS), a sophomore, most recently broke the 800 meters school record three weeks ago at the Bryan Clay Invitational in a time of 1:50.53. Hemphill finished the 800 meters tonight at the Oxy Invitational in a time of 1:49.81, which is 0.72 seconds faster than his previous record and also good for fourth place.

Freshman Megan LaCamera (Burbank, Calif./Burbank HS) etched her name higher on the Pepperdine women's 1,500 meters all-time list to fourth after collecting a time of 17:41.43, which is also her season best. Before, LaCamera ranked seventh all-time in a time of 18:07.33, which she beat by 25.9 seconds.

Junior Skyler Danley (Easton, Pa./Easton Area HS) also ran in the 1,500 meters posting a time of 18:27.48, which is her season best. Danley currently sits 10th on the Pepperdine all-time list in a time of 18:22.25, which she nearly beat by 5.23 seconds. Junior Olivia Miller represented the Waves in the women's 1,500 meters crossing the finish line at 4:44.04, which was good for 11th place.

On the men's side, sophomore Johnathan Flint (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound HS) also marked his name higher on the Pepperdine all-time list in the men's 5,000 meters from 10th to seventh, by collecting a time of 14:52.49, which was 3.45 seconds faster than his previous time and a season best for him. Sophomore William Watkins (Mill Valley, Calif./Marin Catholic HS) raced in the men's 200 meters clocking in at 22.20.

On Friday night, senior Karl Winter (Stockton, Calif./Saint Mary's HS) competed at the Sound Running Track meet in the men's 1,500 meters and marked a sixth-place finish in a time of 3:40.37. Winter currently holds the school record in a time of 3:39.60. Winter will await his ticket to the NCAA West Regional in Fayetteville, Ark., as the top-48 times in each event qualify. He currently ranks 31st with his time of 3:39.60.
