FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Pepperdine track's Lizzy Crawford is set to make history tomorrow night. Competing in the 10K at 7:10 p.m. PST, her run will earn her the distinction as the first woman and second Wave to ever compete at a Division I track qualifier.
She will take to John McDonnell Field on the campus of the University of Arkansas. Crawford, the No. 40 seed in the event, could extend her season to the NCAA Championships with a top-12 finish Thursday. Conditions are expected to hover around 70°, with high humidity and a decent chance of rain.Â
"I'm super excited to represent the Waves at the NCAA West Regionals this week," Crawford said. "It was a lot of hard work to make it, and I'm really grateful to be the first woman in Pepperdine's history to earn this honor!"
Waves fans can tune into her trailblazing run on ESPN+, or follow along with live results.Â
A record-setter from the beginning of the season to the end (signing her name to five event-bests this year) her speed in the 10K is what thrust her into tomorrow's momentous meet. On April 3 she took the program's top time and ultimately punched her ticket to the prelims with a 33:44.39 at the Stanford Invitational.Â
"It's such a privilege to be competing at this race to go out and show what Pepperdine can do and what I've been training for. To be on the start line against such amazing talent is an honor; I want to use the opportunity to give it my all."
Crawford will join Karl Winter (2021, 2022) and Ron Pettigrew (1969 at the Division II level) as the lone Waves to enjoy a track postseason.
