Winter, McCabe & Watkins Compete at APU Last Chance Meet

AZUSA, California – Karl Winter, Kyle McCabe and William Watkins of the Pepperdine men's track team competed at the APU Last Chance meet at Azusa Pacific on Friday and Saturday.

Winter (Stockton, Calif./Saint Mary's HS) notched a second-place finish in his heat in the men's 800 meters on Friday night. Winter crossed the finish line in a time of 1:50.41, which is his season-best. Winter was the former 800-meter school-record holder, until this season when teammate Ryan Hemphill (Visalia, Calif./Redwood HS) beat that time this season. Hemphill holds the school record in a time of 1:49.81.

McCabe (Westminster, Colo./Holy Family HS) also competed on Friday night, but in the men's 5,000 meters and collected a fifth-place finish in his heat. McCabe finished in a time of 14:42.88. He currently ranks second on the Pepperdine all-time list in the men's 5,000 meters with a time of 14:28.68, which he ran this season at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Winter currently holds the school record in the 5,000 meters in a time of 13:46.80, which he also set this season at the Stanford Invitational.

Watkins (Mill Valley, Calif./Marin Catholic HS) ran in the men's 400 meters in a time of 51.19, which was good for sixth place in his heat. This was the fourth time Watkins competed in the 400 meters this season. When Watkins raced in the 400 meters at the Bryan Clay Invitational, he was 0.097 seconds away from tying the school record held by Brandon Davis in a time of 50.00.
