McCabe, Winter and Watkins to Run at APU Last Chance Meet

MALIBU, California – Kyle McCabe, Karl Winter and William Watkins of the Pepperdine men's track team will compete at the APU Last Chance Meet in Azusa, Calif., this Friday and Saturday (May 13-14).

The meet is hosted by Azusa Pacific and will take place at Cougar Stadium. Winter (Stockton, Calif./Saint Mary's HS), a senior, will run in the men's 800 meters on Friday at 6:30 p.m. McCabe (Westminster, Colo./Holy Family HS), a senior, will also race on Friday in the men's 5,000 meters at 8:03 p.m. Watkins (Mill Valley, Calif./Marin Catholic HS), a sophomore, will run in the men's 200 and 400 meters on Saturday with the 400 meters beginning at 3:10 p.m. and the 200 meters at 4:45 p.m.

Last weekend, the Waves finished the regular season on a strong note as Ryan Hemphill broke the 800-meter school record for the fourth time this season at the Oxy Invitational on Saturday, May 7. Hemphill (Visalia, Calif./Redwood HS), a sophomore, most recently broke the 800 meters school record three weeks ago at the Bryan Clay Invitational in a time of 1:50.53. Hemphill finished the 800 meters at the Oxy Invitational in a time of 1:49.81, which is 0.72 seconds faster than his previous record and was good for fourth place.Â

Freshman Megan LaCamera (Burbank, Calif./Burbank HS) etched her name higher on the Pepperdine women's 1,500 meters all-time list to fourth after collecting a time of 17:41.43, which is aso her season best. Before, LaCamera ranked seventh all-time in a time of 18:07.33, which she beat by 25.9 seconds. Junior Skyler Danley (Easton, Pa./East Area HS) also ran in the 1,500 meters posting a time of 18:27.48, which is her season best. Danley currently sits 10th on the Pepperdine all-time list in a time of 18:22.25, which she nearly beat by 5.23 seconds.

On the men's side, sophomore Johnathan Flint (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound HS) also marked his name higher on the Pepperdine all-time list in the men's 5,000 meters from 10th to seventh, by collecting a time of 14:52.49, which was 3.45 seconds faster than his previous time and a season best for him. Watkins competed in the men's 200 meters finishing in a time of 22.20.

On Friday, May 6, Winter competed at the Sound Running Track meet in the men's 1,500 meters and marked a sixth-place finish in a time of 3:40.37. Winter currently holds the school record in a time of 3:39.60.
