Women's Golf Increases Lead at WCC Championships

HENDERSON, Nevada – A terrific second-round effort has given the Pepperdine women's golf team a sizable lead at the West Coast Conference Championships on Friday, while Lauren Gomez has maintained her lead on the individual race.

The Waves have a two-day total of 594 (299-295) at the par-72 Reflection Bay Golf Club and will head into Saturday's final round with a 19-shot lead over BYU. Pepperdine was 15 strokes better than anyone else on Friday.

Pepperdine is going for its league-best 19th WCC title at the 25th tournament being held.

Only five players shot par or better on Friday, and the Waves had three of them as Kaleiya Romero had a 1-under and both Gomez and Lion Higo were at even-par.

PLAYER SCORES
- Freshman Lauren Gomez (Murrieta, Calif.) will go for her first college title on Saturday, and she'll head into the final round with a three-shot lead. She's at a 2-under 142 (70-72). She had three birdies on Friday, all of which came mid-round in a four-hole stretch.
- Sophomore Kaleiya Romero (San Jose, Calif.) moved up to third place at 147 (76-71). She had four birdies during the second round, including back-to-back on 11 and 12, and a birdie on 18 put her at under-par on the day.
- Sophomore Lion Higo (Gold Coast, Australia) is in fourth place at 148 (76-72). She had three early bogeys, but came back with birdies on 7, 12 and 14 to finish at even-par.
- Junior Reese Guzman (Kahului, Hawai'i) is in 12th at 157 (77-80). She had two birdies in the second round.
- Freshman KaYee Kwok (Tianjin, China) is in 15th at 159 (77-82).
