FIELD — Five WCC schools sponsor women's golf. In addition to Pepperdine, BYU, Gonzaga, San Francisco and Santa Clara will compete for the league crown.
PEPPERDINE LINEUP — The Waves' lineup consists of freshman Lauren Gomez (Murrieta, Calif.), sophomore Lion Higo (Gold Coast, Australia), junior Reese Guzman (Kahului, Hawai'i), sophomore Kaleiya Romero (San Jose, Calif.) and freshman KaYee Kwok (Tianjin, China). Additionally, graduate student Megan Dennis (Bedfordshire, United Kingdom) will travel as a potential substitute.
RANKINGS — Pepperdine is ranked 57th by Golfweek/Sagarin and 65th by Golfstat ... Individually, Lauren Gomez is 67th in Golfstat.
EVENT HISTORY — Pepperdine has won 18 of the 24 WCC titles ever contested, including a run of 14 straight between 2002 and 2015. The Waves' last victory was in 2019. There was no tournament in 2020, and in both 2018 and 2021, Pepperdine lost in a playoff. The Waves have produced the medalist at 17 of the events.
NCAAs — The NCAA will announce the fields for NCAA Regional play on Wednesday, April 27, at 1 p.m. on the Golf Channel.
SEASON HIGHLIGHTS — Kaleiya Romero won the season-opening Dick McGuire Invitational for her first college victory. She shot a 10-under 206, tying the fourth-best score in program history, and defeated BYU's Lila Galeai on the first hole of a playoff. Romero was named the WCC's Player of the Month for September ... Lauren Gomez leads the Waves with three top-10 finishes, including the Golfweek Red Sky Classic (T-10th), the Stanford Invitational (T-7th) and the Gold Rush (T-10th).
ABOUT PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY — Pepperdine boasts a one-of-a-kind athletic department with unprecedented success for a school of its size. The Waves have won NCAA Division I championships in five different men's sports — one of just 18 schools to have accomplished this feat — and 10 overall. Of this elite group, Pepperdine has the smallest undergraduate enrollment, is the only school without football and is the only university that has not been affiliated with a "major" conference. The Waves have won a total of 26 team or individual national championships in their history. Pepperdine has also earned the Division I-AAA All-Sports Trophy, an award based on postseason success that's given to the top non-football school, three times (most recently in 2011-12). Located in scenic Malibu, California, the university overlooks the Pacific Ocean and its campus and athletic facilities are regularly voted among the nation's most beautiful. Pepperdine, which is affiliated with the Church of Christ, ranks #49 overall on U.S. News and World Report's list of America's best colleges.
