MALIBU, California – Trey Cole of the Pepperdine men's volleyball team claimed the regular season's final Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Defensive Player of the Week award on Monday. It was his second time being honored this season.
Cole (Long Island, N.Y./Connetquot HS), a sophomore libero, helped the Waves to a pair of victories over Stanford. He had 21 digs over the eight sets, good for a team-best 2.62 digs per set. After recording eight in a three-set win on Thursday, he posted 13 digs in a five-set victory on Saturday, the most by any Wave during the 2022 season. It was his fourth time hitting double-figures this season.
Cole previously won the award this season on February 21. He's now received the acclaim three times in two years.
Six different Waves earned MPSF weekly honors a total of eight times this season. The other winners include Bryce Dvorak (Offensive, 1/17 and Defensive, 2/28), Austin Wilmot (Defensive, 1/17), Jaylen Jasper (Offensive, 2/14), Alex Gettinger (Offensive, 4/18) and Spencer Wickens (Defensive, 4/18).
The eighth-ranked Waves (16-9, 7-5) are the #3 seed at this week's MPSF Tournament. They'll face sixth-seeded BYU on Wednesday (April 20) at 5 p.m. at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion. FloVolleyball will provide live streaming.
