Pepperdine to Compete in Two Meets

MALIBU, California – The Pepperdine men's and women's track teams will compete at the Cal State LA Twilight Open and the Bryan Clay Invitational this week.

The Cal State LA Twilight Open is on Thursday, April 14, with running events beginning at 3:30 p.m. at the Jesse Owens Track. Other Waves will be at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific in Azusa, Calif., on Thursday, April 14 and Friday, April 15. Running events for the Bryan Clay Invitational will start at 7 a.m. on Thursday and 9:30 a.m. on Friday at Cougar Athletic Stadium.

The Waves continued their strong outdoor performance at the Triton Invitational on April 9, including a highlighted performance by Ryan Hemphill who broke his own school record in the 800 meters.

Hemphill (Visalia, Calif./Redwood HS), a sophomore, beat his own school record in the 800 meters that he set one week prior, in a time of 1:50.98, which was good for fourth place. Hemphill's time was 0.36 seconds faster than his previous record of 1:51.34 at the CSUN Invitational.

Freshman Colin Proctor (Coppell, Texas/Coppell HS) collected a first-place finish in his heat in the 800 meters crossing the line at 1:55.61 and also secured his name sixth on the Pepperdine all-time list. Sophomore Johnathan Flint (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound HS) competed in the men's 1,500 meters marking his name second in his heat clocking in at 3:47.71, which was also good for second on the Pepperdine all-time list. Senior Kyle McCabe (Westminster, Colo./Holy Family HS) collected a fourth-place finish in the 1,500 meters in a time of 3:58.92, which also marks his name ninth on the Pepperdine all-time list.

On the women's side, Olivia Miller (Tallahassee, Fla./Lawton Chiles HS) had a first-place finish in her heat in the women's 800 meters and ninth on the Pepperdine all-time list, crossing in a time of 2:20.05. Freshman Megan LaCamera (Burbank, Calif./Burbank HS) was the top performer for the Waves in the women's 1,500 meters finishing in a time of 10:21.94, which was good for seventh place and also marked her name sixth on the Pepperdine all-time list.

Senior Alicia Oumsang (Rochester, N.H./Spaulding HS) also had a first-place finish in the 200 meters in her heat, clocking in at 29.91. Oumsang also had a second-place finish in her heat in the 100 meters in a time of 14.18. Freshman Leah Dixon (Reno, Nev./Damonte Ranch HS) represented the Waves in the women's 400-meter hurdles finishing in a time of 1:15.66, which was good for second place in her heat. Dixon also competed in the 100-meter hurdles collecting a time of 18.56.
