MALIBU, Calif. — After three close sets in Firestone Fieldhouse on Thursday night, the Pepperdine women's volleyball team was downed by #17 BYU, 25-22, 25-21, 25-22.
Freshman setter
Rosemary Archer dished it out the Waves' attack force, leading six separate Waves to three or more kills.
Grace Chillingworth had a team-best 10 kills, hitting for double-figures for the 33
rd time in her career. She and
Emma Ammerman also led at the service line with three aces – a career-high for Ammerman.
On Saturday, the Waves will host #2 San Diego at 12 p.m. for Senior Day where
Riley Patterson,
Kayleigh Hames and
Isabel Zelaya will be honored prior to first serve.

WAVES VS. COUGARS
BYU had the edge on the attack throughout the match, leading with 46 kills on a .372 success rate compared to Pepperdine's 40 kills on a .167 clip. The Waves led at the service line with six aces to the Cougars two, but the opposition outproduced in blocks and digs with 12.0 to 5.0 and 36 to 32 differentials.

Each side came out swinging en route to a 4-4 tied score, before an ace from
Grace Chillingworth and a block from
Meg Brown and
Rosemary Archer gave the home team a two-point advantage. BYU countered with 10-2 run to pull ahead by six and maintained the lead towards a 20-16 lead. The Waves weren't quick to roll over, however, coming within two at 24-22 before the Cougars were able to close the set 25-22.
Pepperdine blasted a 5-1 run on the Cougars to open the second set, fueled by kills from Chillingworth, Brown and Archer and an ace from
Emma Ammerman. The opposition was close behind to counter, though, building on a strong attack to tie the set at 5-apiece. The two teams then went point-for-point en route to a 15-15 tie before the Cougars put up a 4-0 run to gain the lead. After exchanging points through the end of the set, the Cougars pulled ahead 2-0 overall with a 25-21 second set victory.
Though BYU came out fireing in the third set, the Waves were quick to rally, closing the gap to a 16-16 tie after an ace from Chillingworth and kills from Hellmuth, Brown and Polk. After leading by one, 20-19, the opposition started to pull ahead once again, finishing out the match with a 25-22 set win.

After Senior Day on Saturday, Pepperdine will close out the regular season on Tuesday, November 22 against Portland at 1 p.m.
