Women's Volleyball Drops Match at No. 10 Creighton

OMAHA, Neb. - A strong start wasn't enough as the Pepperdine women's volleyball team (3-2) fell to No. 10 Creighton (4-1) by a final of 3-1 Saturday afternoon.

"The Waves played a heck of a match and this was the best we have competed this year," commented Head Coach Scott Wong after the contest. "Ultimately, Creighton was just a little more efficient in their attack, and I am proud of how we played with and for each other throughout this match."

The Waves looked sharp to start the first set, getting out to a 7-4 lead. Irelynd Lorenzen was fantastic, setting the tone with a pair of kills. Pepperdine would later extend the advantage to 13-9 after an Ella Piskorz kill. Creighton would soon have an answer, tying the set at 18 following Trinity Shadd-Ceres' kill, set up by Jaya Johnson. A couple of attack errors and service errors would make a difference down the stretch as the Bluejays closed out the set, taking it 25-22.

Pepperdine came out of the break and blazed to a 4-0 start, with Maggie Beauer tallying a kill. The Bluejays rallied and extinguished the lead, pulling ahead 12-9 after a Nikol Dvornikova attack error. The set would teeter in both directions for several points before a Piskorz kill ignited the Waves to a 20-15 lead. Chloe Pravednikov helped punctuate a set victory with a kill, and Pepperdine knotted the match at one set apiece.

Each team traded blows to begin the third set until a Katie Dalton kill began to separate Creighton from the Waves. The Bluejays held steady momentum for most of the set and started to run away with it after Johnson added another kill for Creighton, making it 17-12 in favor of the home team. The Bluejays never looked back despite several Pepperdine comeback attempts and took a 2-1 lead with a 25-18 set victory.

The fourth set was more of the same, as Creighton piled up the kills and racked up four service aces. Shadd-Ceres would tally a kill to put the Bluejays up by double digits and eventually end the match with another as Pepperdine dropped its second consecutive match.

GAME NOTES

Pravednikov paced Pepperdine with 15 kills in 39 attacks.
Dvornikova led the Waves with 19 digs.
