#10 Waves Roll Past Aggies

DAVIS, Calif. – It was a successful trip to the UC Davis Beach Volleyball Courts on Friday morning, as the #10 Pepperdine beach volleyball team rolled through UC Davis with a pair of road wins featuring a 5-0 sweep and a 4-1 victory.

The Waves will head into the final week of scheduled regular season competition next week with a 10-12 record so far this season after today's victories.

MATCH RECAPS
In the first dual, the Waves came out swinging, collecting first set wins on four of five courts. In the first flight, Alexis Filippone and Brook Bauer first downed their opposition on court two 21-12, 21-16 to set the tone and Cameron Baklenko and Gracie Pedersen were close behind with a 21-18, 14-21 and 15-11 win to close the flight.

With the 1-0 advantage heading into the second flight, the Waves kept the momentum running, quickly clinching with a 21-12, 21-17 win from Sutton Mactavish and Mary Sinclair in the No. 3 position. Pepperdine completed the sweep with wins on courts one and five. First, Katie Gavin and Kristine Briede took down their opponents, coming back from a 21-18 first set loss to win the next two 21-9, 16-14. Carly Skjodt and Melanie Paul closed up shop with a 21-15, 19-21, 15-8 win on court one.

In the second match, UC Davis was the first on the board with a two-set win in the No. 1 position. The Waves were close behind, though, with Skjodt and Paul taking a 21-17, 21-14 in the No. 2 slot to even things up. Gavin and Briede then downed their opponents 21-12, 21-16 in the No. 5 spot to put Pepperdine in a position to clinch.

Baklenko and Pedersen would be the Waves to clinch in the No. 4 position, picking up a 21-11, 19-21, 15-9 victory. Mactavish and Sinclair closed up shop with a 21-16, 21-19 win in the No. 3 position to make it a 4-1 close to the day.

NEXT UP
Next week, the Waves will head to Palo Alto to compete against Cal, Saint Mary's and host Stanford on Saturday and Sunday, April 17 and 18.
