Beach Volleyball Treks to Palo Alto for Four Matches

MALIBU, Calif. – The #11 Pepperdine beach volleyball program will hit the road for the final weekend of regular season competition, trekking to Palo Alto to compete in a tournament hosted by #10 Stanford and including #12 Cal and WCC opponent Saint Mary's, a team receiving votes in the AVCA Coaches Poll.

After a set of three duals, seeding will determine a fourth and final championship or consolation dual to be played. Regardless of what seed, Pepperdine will play the fourth match at 2 p.m. PT on Sunday.

DUAL 23: Saturday (April 17) in Palo Alto, Calif.: #11 Pepperdine vs. Saint Mary's (RV) at 10 a.m. PT.

LOOKING AHEAD: After this weekend's set of matches, the Waves will enter postseason, beginning with the West Coast Conference Championships to be played at Dockweiler Beach in El Segundo, Calif. on April 30 and May 1.
WAVES WEATHER: Saturday calls for a high of 74˚ with some clouds in the morning that will give way to mainly sunny skies for the afternoon. Winds will run Northwest from 10 to 20 miles per hour throughout the day and there is a low 8% chance of precipitation.

Sunday will be similar throughout, with a high of 81• and a sunny disposition. There will be 10 to 20 mile per hour winds again running North to Northwest and only a 4% chance of precipitation throughout the day.

WAVE REPORT: Pepperdine currently has a 10-12 overall record after having gone 3-0 last week in local California matches. The Waves have marked a 54-56 (.491) overall pairs record this season and have tabbed winning records in the No. 2 and 3 positions so far.

The top three spots have been held by a few rotating pairs. Simone Priebe and Melanie Paul have tabbed the most wins as a duo with a 12-7 overall record, including a 1-4 record in the No. 1 position, an 8-2 record in the No. 2 position and a 3-1 record in the No. 3 slot.Â

Brook Bauer and Carly Skjodt have posted a 7-8 overall record with a 4-7 record in the top slot and a 3-1 output in the No. 2 position. Alexis Filippone and Sutton Mactavish have gone 5-10 overall this season, collecting a 1-3 output from the No. 2 position and a 4-7 record in the No. 3 spot.Â

In the last two weekends, however, a few new pairing options have come to light.  Bauer and Filippone first teamed up as a pair in Arizona and went undefeated with a 4-0 record, posting three wins in the No. 1 position and one win in the No. 2 position. The duo then went 2-1 last weekend to amass a 6-1 overall record together this season, including a 3-1 output in the top position and a 3-0 record in the No. 2 slot.

Additionally, Skjodt and Paul joined forces last week, going 3-0 overall with two wins in the No. 2 position and one win in the No. 2 slot. Mactavish and Mary Sinclair have played together in the No. 3 slot as well, amassing a 5-1 record in the past two weekends for the Waves.

In the No. 4 slot, multiple pairs have played there, with Jordan Benoit and Mary Sinclair, Calista Wright and Katie Gavin and Cameron Baklenko and Gracie Pedersen each having collected two wins. Two other partnerships won one match a piece in that position. Additionally, Gavin, while playing with either Kristine Briede or Michaela Kasper had been most successful in the No. 5 slot with both of those duos having collected a 2-0 record, while three other pairing have won at least one match.
