#10 Waves Prevail 3-2 Over #16 LBSU

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Though #16 Long Beach State had an early edge on Wednesday afternoon at the LBSU Beach Courts, the #10 Pepperdine beach volleyball team rallied back to prevail with a 3-2 victory with wins in the No. 1, 2 and 3 positions.

Brook Bauer and Alexis Filippone were the winning Waves in the first flight, while Melanie Paul and Carly Skjodt and Sutton Mactavish and Simone Priebe delivered the second flight one-two punch for the overall victory.Â
Â
The Waves improve to 8-12 overall and will travel to UC Davis on Friday for the next matchup.Â

The first flight was close from start to finish, with the Waves and Beach splitting first set wins on courts two and four. Though Pepperdine won a 24-22 first set battle in the No. 4 slot, Long Beach came back to win the next two sets to put a point on the board first.

Brook Bauer and Alexis Filippone then gritted out a 23-21 second set win, coming back from the 21-14 first set loss to force a third set on court two. The duo then dominated the third set en route to a 15-9 win to tie the overall score and send things into the second flight.

Though LBSU took court five in two sets, the Waves on courts one and three were nearly unstoppable. Melanie Paul and Carly Skjodt followed up with a 21-13, 21-17 victory in the No. 1 position, while Sutton Mactavish and Simone Priebe were good for a 21-15, 21-17 win in the No. 3 slot.Â
