#7 Waves Face Six Opponents this Week; Host Pair of Duals Tuesday

MALIBU, Calif. – The #7 Pepperdine beach volleyball team faces six separate opponents this week, starting with a pair of duals in Malibu on Tuesday before making the trip to Tucson for a four-match stint.

HOME ATTENDANCE — Per the current COVID-19 guidelines set by the state of California and Los Angeles County, fans will not be permitted to attend home games.
LOOKING AHEAD: After the week in Arizona, the Waves return to California to take on Long Beach State on April 8 and UC Davis at April 10 on the road.Â
WAVES WEATHER: On Tuesday in Malibu, the weather calls for a high of 71˚ and mainly sunny. There will be winds running East and shifting Southwest at 10 to 15 miles per hour throughout the day.

In Arizona on the weekend, there will be a high of 92Ëš and 93Ëš each day respectively, with mainly sunny skies and winds blowing Southwest at five to 10 miles per hour.Â

WAVE REPORT: The Waves have gone 3-10 so far this season, with a 2-5 record at home and a 1-4 record on the road. Pepperdine has gone 1-10 against nationally ranked opponents as well with a tough schedule in place.

The Waves' top-three pairs have been the most dominant, with Simone Priebe and Melanie Paul leading the pack with a 7-6 record this season, including a 4-1 output in the No. 2 position and a 3-1 record in the No. 3 slot. The duo's four other matches were played in the top-spot.

Brook Bauer and Carly Skjodt have also seen some success for Pepperdine with a 6-7 record overall, including going 3-6 in the top position and 3-1 in the No. 2 position. Alexis Filippone and Sutton Mactavish have gone 4-9 as a pairing, typically playing in the No. 3 slot with a 3-6 output, while also seeing time in the No. 2 position with a 1-3 record.

Brook Bauer: Originally from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Bauer has been an AVCA All-American first teamer (2019), Volleyball Magazine and DiG Magazine All-American second team selection in 2018 and 2019 and VolleyMob All-American second team honoree in 2018. She was West Coast Defender of the Year in 2019 and Freshman of the Year in 2018. She earned All-WCC first team acclaim in 2018 and 2019 and WCC All-Academic honors in 2019 and 2020, along with WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll 'silver' honors in 2018 and 'bronze' honors in 2019 and 2020. Also in 2019, Bauer won second place at the USA Collegiate Beach Volleyball Championship. She has collected 49 wins so far in her career which ranks in the top-20 of the Pepperdine beach volleyball record books, typically playing in the No. 1 or 2 positions.

Alexis Filippone: Native to Del Mar, Calif., Filippone has been a mainstay on the sand for Pepperdine beach volleyball since her freshman campaign, earning VolleyMob All-American first team and WCC All-Freshman Team honors in 2018. She earned a WCC All-Academic nod in 2020, and has garnered WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll 'bronze' honors and Pepperdine Scholar-Athlete acclaim in 2018, 2019 and 2020. She has marked 52 wins throughout her career as a Wave, which ranks tied at 16th in the Pepperdine career record books.

Katie Gavin: Originally from Laguna Beach, Calif., Gavin has been a presence within the program for four seasons, earning WCC All-Academic honorable mention honors in 2020 and WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll 'bronze' honors in 2019 and 2020. She has also been a Pepperdine Scholar-Athlete in 2019 and 2020. She has amassed 20 wins for the program.

Carly Skjodt: From Carmel, Ind., Skjodt joined the Waves after playing four years of indoor volleyball at Michigan. Though her two seasons have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, Skjodt has made an immediate impact. She earned Pepperdine Scholar-Athlete and WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll 'gold' honors in 2020. Skjodt has collected 10 wins in her two seasons donning the navy and orange.
