MALIBU, Calif. – The #7 Pepperdine beach volleyball program closed up the final home contests of the season on Tuesday afternoon, honoring four seniors after the two duals were finished. The Waves swept past Vanguard before falling 4-1 to PCH Cup rival LMU in the following dual.

Seniors Brook Bauer, Alexis Filippone, Katie Gavin and Carly Skjodt were the Waves honored after the matches were complete.

MATCH RECAPS
The Waves made quick work of the Lions in the first dual, busting out of the starting gate with first set wins on both courts in the first flight. Calista Wright and Katie Gavin won first to put the Waves on the board, amassing a 21-6, 21-8 victory over their opponents on court four. Then Simone Priebe and Melanie Paul finished off their opponents on court two with a 21-13, 21-18 win to put Pepperdine ahead 2-0 heading into the second flight.

In the second flight, the Waves once again won first sets on all three courts. Jordan Benoit and Mary Sinclair clinched on five with a 21-15, 21-5 dominating win against their pair. Then, Sutton Mactavish and Alexis Filippone bested their opposition on court three with a 21-14, 21-5 win to put the Waves in a position to close it up. Carly Skjodt and Brook Bauer completed the sweep on court one with a 21-14, 21-13 win to end the dual.

In the second dual against PCH Cup rival LMU, the Waves and Lions split the opening flight – with LMU taking court four and Priebe and Paul winning their match on court two 21-18, 21-11 to tie things up.

Though things began close throughout the first set, LMU was able to win all those sets to gain the edge early. All the matches were close throughout and Filippone and Mactavish forced a third set after splitting the first two 24-26, 21-13, but were felled in the third to end the day with a 4-1 final.

NEXT UP
This weekend, the Waves hit the road for Tucson, Ariz. to play in the Arizona Invitational against the Wildcats, Missouri State, Grand Canyon and Colorad Mesa on Friday and Saturday, April 2-3.
