OPPONENT — Pepperdine is a perfect 11-0-0 against Pacific, with a 4-0-0 record in Stockton. The last six wins (and nine overall) have been by shutout. In 2019, a 4-0 Pepperdine win in Malibu, goals were scored by Devyn Gilfoy, Joelle Anderson, Erin Sinai and Madi Cook.
LAST WEEK — Pepperdine earned its second straight 1-0 shutout with a home victory over San Francisco last Saturday. Joelle Anderson scored off a Trinity Watson assist in the 69th minute. The Waves outshot the Dons 11-9 and held USF to just one shot on goal.
AWARDS — Trinity Watson was named WCC Defensive Player of the Week on March 9 after a shutout win vs. San Francisco in which she assisted on the game-winning goal ... Zoe Clevely was named WCC Defensive Player of the Week on March 2 after the shutout win at Saint Mary's, which included a save on a penalty kick ... Emily Sample was named to Top Drawer Soccer's national team of the week on March 2 after the shutout win at Saint Mary's ... Watson was named to Top Drawer Soccer's national team of the week on Feb. 16 after she scored the game's first goal against USD.
NOTABLE — Pepperdine has outshot the opponent in all five games ... Six different players have scored the Waves' seven goals this season ... Pepperdine's two losses this season have come to teams ranked #3 and #4 in the country at the time (though the Waves outshot them too) ... Sixteen players have started a game this season and five (Madi Cook, Emily Sample, Alex Sampson, Tori Waldeck, Trinity Watson) have started every match.
ANDERSON — Senior midfielder Joelle Anderson was picked in the third round of the 2021 NWSL Draft by the Houston Dash, but she's got business to finish in Malibu before she joins the pros. The three-time All-WCC pick (two-time first team) and two-time All-West Region honoree (2019 first team) has accumulated 22 goals (ninth all-time at Pepperdine), nine game-winning goals (tied for sixth), 13 assists and 57 points in her career. Anderson has been named to the MAC Hermann Trophy preseason watch list.
ABOUT PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY — Pepperdine boasts a one-of-a-kind athletic department with unprecedented success for a school of its size. The Waves have won NCAA Division I championships in five different men's sports — one of just 18 schools to have accomplished this feat — and nine overall. Of this elite group, Pepperdine has the smallest undergraduate enrollment, is the only school without football and is the only university that has not been affiliated with a "major" conference. The Waves have won a total of 25 team or individual national championships in their history. Pepperdine has also earned the Division I-AAA All-Sports Trophy, an award based on postseason success that's given to the top non-football school, three times (most recently in 2011-12). Located in scenic Malibu, California, the university overlooks the Pacific Ocean and its campus and athletic facilities are regularly voted among the nation's most beautiful. Pepperdine, which is affiliated with the Church of Christ, ranks #49 overall on U.S. News and World Report's list of America's best colleges.
