Women’s Soccer Battles to 1-1 Draw Against RV USC

MALIBU, Calif. – Pepperdine women's soccer (1-0-1) found a goal in the second half to tie USC (0-1-1) who received votes in the preseason top 25 poll.
"Everybody played great against a very, very good team," head coach Tim Ward said. "I'm really proud of that result and of our performance today."
The first half saw seldom opportunities for scoring from both sides. Just seven combined shots meant lots of fighting for possession in the midfield. USC took an early lead in the 17th minute with a goal from Lily Biddulph. Despite momentum towards the half, Pepperdine took the field in the second half trailing 0-1.
Building off the opening half, the Waves were relentless in the attacking third to start the latter 45 minutes, earning a penalty kick in the 52nd minute. Julia Quinonez buried her third of the season to level the playing field 1-1. Jillian Medvecky stepped up for the Waves with three saves in the second half as the Trojans earned six corner kicks in an attempt to break the tie.
Despite outshooting USC 13-10, including 7-5 on target, Pepperdine ran out of time as the match ended in a 1-1 draw. This is the first between the two squads since 2014.
Freshman Erin Ha made her first collegiate start this afternoon.
Next up, the Waves welcome the Golden Bears of Cal, Berkeley to Malibu. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon. As the first match The game will be streamed on ESPN+ (subscription required) and live stats can be found at www.pepperdinewaves.com.
