WAVEPOINTS
• After final exams are complete, the Pepperdine men's basketball team continues its four-game homestand on Saturday evening against Central Arkansas.
• It'll be the first meeting between the Waves and Bears in 73 years, as the only previous matchup took place in the 1946 NAIB Championships.
• Pepperdine's all-time assist record will almost assuredly fall on Saturday. Colbey Ross now has 492 and he needs just two to tie and three to pass Jeremy Major's total of 494. Ross has more career assists than any junior in the country.Â
• Ross is averaging a WCC-best 7.4 assists per game and is second in the conference in scoring (18.9). Nationally, he's fifth in total assists (74) and sixth in assists per game. Ross also leads the WCC in free throw percentage (92.0%) and minutes played (36.1) and he's second in three-pointers per game (2.5).
• Kessler Edwards is coming off a career-high 23 points in the win against Idaho State. He had his fourth double-double of the season, already surpassing his freshman-year total of three.
• The Waves boast three of the top five scorers in the WCC: Ross (second at 18.9), Kameron Edwards (third at 17.3) and Kessler Edwards (fifth at 15.8). They are also three of the top four free throw shooters (Ross first at 92.0%, Kessler third at 85.4% and Kameron fourth at 82.9%).
• Kessler Edwards also ranks second in the WCC in rebounding (8.1).
• Three Waves have been injured of late, including Kameron Edwards (nose) having missed the last two games and Keith Smith (knee) the last six.
• The Waves have hit 80% or better of their free throws in nine of their 10 games and they rank first nationally at 85.5%.
• Two of the Waves' freshmen recently hit double-figures for the first time in their careers, with Jan Zidek scoring 16 against Providence and Sedrick Altman getting 11 against Idaho State.
• Pepperdine has two more home games before Christmas — next Tuesday (Dec. 17) vs. Portland State and Saturday (Dec. 21) vs. Northern Arizona.
WAVECASTS — Saturday's game can be viewed online via WaveCasts on the WCC Network. Veteran play-by-play man Al Epstein, a 2015 Pepperdine Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, will be behind the microphone (now in his 35th season, this will be his 1,048th consecutive broadcast for the Waves).
TICKETS — Single-game tickets for most Pepperdine home games are $25 for reserved seating, $15 for adult general admission and $12 for alumni or child general admission. Select premium games are $30, $20 and $15, respectively. Tickets are available via PepperdineWaves.com or by calling (310) 506-4764.
PEPPERDINE — Pepperdine boasts a one-of-a-kind athletic department with unprecedented success for a school of its size. The Waves have won NCAA Division I championships in five different men's sports — one of just 18 schools to have accomplished this feat — and nine overall. Of this elite group, Pepperdine has the smallest undergraduate enrollment, is the only school without football and is the only university that has not been affiliated with a "major" conference. The Waves have won a total of 25 team or individual national championships in their history. Pepperdine has also earned the Division I-AAA All-Sports Trophy, an award based on postseason success that's given to the top non-football school, three times (most recently in 2011-12). The Waves have produced 205 conference championships, 318 All-Americans and 53 Olympians. Located in scenic Malibu, California, the university overlooks the Pacific Ocean and its campus and athletic facilities are regularly voted among the nation's most beautiful. Pepperdine, which is affiliated with the Church of Christ, ranks #50 overall on U.S. News and World Report's list of America's best colleges.
