MALIBU, California — The Pepperdine women's soccer team begins its stretch run on Saturday with a home match against Pacific. With four games remaining, the Waves need an impressive finish to boost their NCAA Tournament hopes.
After Wednesday's defeat at Santa Clara, Pepperdine is in fifth place in the WCC with nine points after five matches, but the Waves have already played most of the league's top teams.
Saturday is the First Responder Appreciation Game as Pepperdine approaches the one-year anniversary of the Borderline tragedy and Woolsey Fire. Free admission and special commemorative "Team 27" patches will be available to first responders with a badge/ID.

McFarland also leads with five assists (tied for seventh in the WCC) and 11 points ... Kinsey Ehmann is first in the WCC in shutouts per game (0.42), second in saves per game (4.17) and third in save percentage (.746) ... The Waves' defense, which has four sophomores across the back line and a redshirt freshman goalkeeper, is fourth in the WCC in goals-against average (1.28) and tied for second in shutouts (seven). At the other end of the field, they're fifth in scoring at 1.47 goals per game ... Pepperdine played one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the country. The combined win-loss record of their non-conference opponents in 2018 was 120-62-20 (.643), and five of them won matches in the 2018 NCAA Tournament. Five of the 10 opponents were nationally ranked at the time of the game, and another was receiving votes. Most notably, the Waves beat then-#2 Stanford and tied Texas A&M and UCLA.
